Program Listed For Calf Club Banquet Annual Banquet At Geneva March 28 A motion picture on the 1554 in ternational dairy show will be featured at the 4-1! dairy calf club banquet. The banquet will be served at the Geneva high school at 6:30 p.m. March 2R. The 4-H dairy calf committee has outlined an excellent program with Leonard Kingsley serving as toastmaster.' There will be music by Ijtrry and Harry Gerber and the Singleton girls. The invocation will be pronounced by Herman Krue ckeberg of the First State Rank of Decatur, and Roy Price, chairman of the dairy calf club committee, will give the welcome. Edison Lenman will report on the dairy calf committee activities. Elmer Baumgartner of the First Bank of Berne will speak on "We Support Dairy Calf Club Work Because - - .” Ray Sininger of the Pet Milk company will present the Pet Milk achievement trophy. (INSI — A manhunt for two escaped jail breakers, described as dangerous, was concentrated along the Ohio river area today after their kidnap victim eluded them and told state troopers they were trying to get into Kentucky. All bridges and ferries were being watched for Roy Boatman, 31, of Richmond, and Elgie Broughton,, 24, of Kokomo, two of the three men who Tuesday staged a jail break at Kokomo by threatening a turnkey with a knife made , from a metal bed. The two men had kidnaped James Poling. 20, of Kokomo, by I forcing themselves into his car about a half-hour after the jail j break. Poling jumped from his car Tuesday, night in Rockport while Boatman and Broughton were studying a map. The kidnaped man told of a wild eight-hour ride ' with the two escapees through Indiana and. Illinois. Paul L. Quinn, 40. of Kokomo. ' who had joined Broughton and Boatman in the escape, enjoyed short-lived freedom. He was recaptured Tuesday afternoon as he triqri to hitch a ride along the U.S. 31 bypass. Quinn had been returned to Kokomo from Biloxi, Miss., to face a charge of pulling a gun on a policeman. Broughton was in the Howard county jail awaiting outcome of his appeal for a new trial on the charge of vehicle theft. Boatman is a suspect in an armed robbery at a Kokomo supermarket. Meanwhile, his wife. Virginia Boatman, was being sentenced to one to three years in the Ohio woman’s reformatory at the same time her husband was staging his jail break. Mrs. Boatman pleaded vainly that her husband <, forced her to sign a fraudulent check by threatening to kill her. Rabbit Breeders On Television Tuesday Members of the Adams county rabbit breeders association and county agricultural agent Leo N. Seltenright will appear on WKJGTV next Tuesday afternoon at 12:15 o’clock. Subject of the discussion to be headed by the local people will be “the right way to select a 4-H rabbit.” The show also will put in a • plug for the rabbit show to be held in this city Sunday. Parole Department Equalizes Justice Parole Authorized For Monroe Selke INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — The Indiana state prison parole department made another effort to equalize justice for two men and a woman all convicted of the same murder. A parole was authorized* for Monroe Selke, who had been convicted for the 1934 slaying of William Mohr and sentenced to lite imprisonment on a second degree murder charge in Ripley circuit court. Two companions, a man and a woman, also implicated in the choking of Mohr and dumping his body in a reservoir, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and have long ago been released, after serving lesser terms. The parole board gave Selke his freedom once before, but he returned voluntarily in December. 1949. Also authorized for parole, in addition to Selke, were: Willie Cunningham, 2-21 years for voluntary manslaughter, Allen county; Richard E. Alvey, 1-10. fraudulent check, Vanderburgh; Fidward Cooper, life. Fayette county. habitual criminal and vehicle taking: Charles Baird, 10-25 years, robbery, Clarence Harris.” forgery. 214, Dan Parsons, assault and battery with intent to murder, Frank Kramer, petit larceny, 1-5, H. K. Lewis, forgery, 2-14. and Dan Watkins. fraudulent check, 1-10 years, all from Marion county. Joe Miner, forgery. 2-14, Wells; John Applegate, Clinton county, forgery. 2-14 years; James E. Wilson. Vigo, second degree burglary, 2-5; Kenneth Williams, Lake. 1-7. failure to provide for wife and children. Farmers' Institute Board Meets Tuesday The annual meeting of the farmers’ institute board was held Tuesday afternoon at the county extension office, it was reported today by Leo N. Seltenright. county agent Ellis Converse, 1954-55 chairman, conducted the meeting. Reports of the recent institutes were given as follows: Union township by Otto Thieme; Preble-Root township by Everett Singleton; Adams Central by Ellis Converse; Berne by Leroy Lehman; Geneva by Ray VanEmon; and St. Mary’s by Kenneth Mitchell. The discussion which followed centered around ideas for improvement of linnets institutes for 1956. Tentative dates set for the institutes were the first two weeks of Febiuary. Otto Thieme was elected chairman ofr the 1955-56 season. Others present were: Mrs. Clarence Mitchelr Mrs. Glen Bixler, Mrs. Dan Striker. Herbert Marbach, Eli Schwartz,-Delmar Heckman, Wilbert Baker. Speculate At U. N. Over India Talks Envoy Confers With President Dulles UNITED NATIONS, N- Y. (INS) —V. K. Krishna Menon’s talks with President Eisenhower and secretary of state John Foster Dulles aroused widespread speculation at the UN today. Some diplomats thought prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s envoy might have offered India’s “good offices" in trying to arrange a cease-fire in the F'ormosa Strait. in Taipeh. Nationalist foreign minister George Yer said today Dulles had been informed on March 3 that the Chiang Kai-Shek government any plan for a cease-fire. They also assumed Menor had urged Mr. Eisenhower and Dulles to study carefully British foreign secretary Sir Anthony Eden’s recent proposal for a solution to the Formosa crisis. Eden proposed that both sides make some concessions, including active cdhsideration of Red China’s representation in the UN and discussion of Formosa’s status. Eden suggested specifically that the off-shore islands Quemoy and Matsu be evacuated by the Nationalist‘forces and left to the Chinese Reds. South Bend Youth Commits Suicide SOUTH BEND, Ind. (INS) —Police today sought to learn the motive which caused George Lee HuiUnger to hang himself on the eve of his nineteenth birthday. The South Bend youth told a girl friend, Miss Atflta Chapman, 15, that he was worried because he might be implicated because he might be Implicated in a theft.
