BIRTHDAY PARTY AT LEGION THURSDAY Thousands of birthday parties, given by American Legion auxiliary units in all parts of the country for their American Legion posts, will mark the American Legion's 36th anniversary, March 13 to 17, Mrs. Frances- Monahan, president of Adams 43, has announced. the Adams unit 43 will give a birthday party for its Legion post at the Legion home. Mrs. Wayne Frauhiger is chairman of the committee in charge of the party arrangements. RUTH CIRCLE MEETS WEDNESDAY EVENING Mrs. Edward Cook presented an informative piogram on Indian and Pakistan at the meeting of the 1 Ruth circle. Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Bud Townsend. Mrs. Cook was assisted by Mrs. Chalmer Deßolt, Mrs. R. C. Hersh, and Mrs. Royal Friend. Mrs. E. E. Rydell conducted the business meeting. During the social hour delicious refreshments were served by the hostess assisted by Mrs; Jack Heller and Mrs. Jack Knudsen.

The bride-elect is a graduate of Bail State Teachers college and is now a commercial teachet in Dowagiac, Mich. ALL DAY MEETING HELD BY SOCIETY The Zion Lutheran Missionary society held an all day meeting Wednesday in the .parish hall. ■Surgical gowns and hospital towels were sewed, to be sent to the Lutheran medical mission in New Guinea. A potluck dinner was served at noon. The busines meting at 1:30. was opened with devotions by Mrs. Louis Jacobs. Mrs. Walter Bauer introduced the program, a film and commentary on “Building for Christ," narrated by Rev. Schmidt. The every member canvass for the building program, favoring Mill Neck school for the deaf, Bethesda Lutherans home~T)ecoiinees association, Lutheran world relief, and Valparaiso university, will take place on March 20. Mrs. Herman Krueckeberg conducted the business meeting. A letter was read from the society’s “adopted” missionary family in Manila. It was voted to donate 510 to the Red Cross. A kitchen committee was appointed to take care of buying incidental needs. Those who will serve are: Mrs. Henry Krueckeberg, Mrs. Chester Kltinknighl;- - -and Mrs. Frank Braun. The meeting closed with prayer. A delicious lunch was served by the following hostesses: Mrs. Frank Braun, Irene Zwick. Mrs. William Zwick, and Mrs. Henry Sheets. INVITES*KIRKLAND GROUP AS GUESTS The Washington township Farm Bureau has invited the Kirkland township Farm Bureau to be their guests at the new Farm Bureau hall in Monroe, Thursday, March 17, at 7:30 o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. John Gage will shoy movies of their recent trip to the Holy Land. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be given. The pet and hobby group will also meet. Miss Ruth Elaine Hunt, daughter of Mrs. Raymond Hunt of Geneva has been named wßiner of the annual award for the most outstanding student in the freshman class of the Parkview Methodist school of nursing in Fort Wayne. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth" Hartman and family have moved from a farm on Decatur route six to Bluffton route four in French township The Hartman children will finish out the school year at Adams Central but are expected to attend the Berne-French school next year, who was being treated for bronwhowas being treated for bronchial pneumonia at the Adame county memorial hospital, was returned to her home recently. Bob Doan, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Doan, is spending a few days at home, between terms at Ball State Teachers college. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kalver of Decatur have returned home after vacationing for ten days. The Kalvers visited Mr. and Mrs. 1. A. IKalver in St. Petersburg, Fla. They then took an air trip to Cuba, Jamaica, and Haiti. Miss Carol Bowman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LaVern Bowman, is spending several days at home between terms at Ball State Teachers college.

Girl Scouts Need Volunteer Leaders To Help In Work This is the fifth of a series of articles to be published this week by volunteer workers in the Girl Scout organization in hopes that piore people will volunteer to be Girl Scout leaders. “Many organizations are now choosing officers to begin functioning in the fall of the year. The Decatur Girl Scout association is also recruiting personnel now, so that the program may begin smoothly in September when vacations are over and girls are looking forward to another year of good scouting. We had an orchestra out of what each Brownie brought to play. The Girl Scout cookies were given to each girl. They are asked to deliver them and turn in the money at the next meeting. Donna Lee Burk will be hostes for next week. Deedra Murry was hostess this week. The meeting was closed with the good night song. Scribe, Deedra Murry Troop 30 met Wednesday night after school at the Lincoln school. We opened the meeting by roll call and the collection dues. The Juliette Low program to be held Friday night at 7:30 was discussed. Sandra Beery will represent our troop. Games were played outdoors. ' Special Course Os Study To Teachers Twenty men and women from the teaching staffs of the Zion Lutb■eran Sunday—and Saturday school, West Monroe street, began a special course of study Thursday evening to increase their proficiency as Christian teachers. The course is being taught by ths pastor, the Rev. Edgar P. Schmidt, and is titled, “Fundamental Christian Beliefs?’ It is one of the courses for teacher training arranged by the board for parish education of the Lutheran church—'Missouri synod. Mrs. Reinhold Sauer, secretary-treasurer ot the Sunday school, is serving as secretary of the training course.
