GIRL SCOUT BIRTHDAY PROGRAM HERE FRIDAY Th® Girl Scout birthday program to be heM Friday evening is al) 'being planned and executed by the Girl Scouts of Decatur. Troops 13 and 16 will be in charge. Leaders of troop 13 are Mrs. Lowell Harper, Mrs. Donald Jefferies. Mrs. Keuneth Small, and Mrs. Garrett Marbach. Leaders of troop 15 are M*s Byron Smith and Mrs. R. C. Hersh. .. Refreshments and table decorations will be in charge of troop one under the leadership of Mrs. Gerald Strickler and Mrs. Theari Stults. The program stressed world friendship in all countries where there are Girl Scouts or Girl Guides. The spirit of friendship. Sue Petrie, will be the master of ceremonies. She is a member oif troop 13. A girl from each Girl Scout and Brownie troop will be representatives in the presentation of the world friendship fund. The Juliette Low birthplace fund will be presented by Mrs. James Tutewiler. This fund will be used tp restore the birthplace of Juliette Low. in Atlanta. Georgia. A large trefoil, a replica of world trefoil, will be a background and a part of the program. Floyd I'lray, who donated his labor in the oonstructlori work, is being aided

IN RECENT MEETING The Literature department of Woman's club met recently at the Elks home with Mrs. Georg? J. Buckley as hostess. 'Mis. Jay Thacker, program chairman, presented an interesting talk on Africa and showed pictures she had taken while living there. Mrs. C. C. Langston and Mrs.' H. W. Stainer reviewed the book "Africa, Land of My Fathers," by Era Bell Thompson. Following the program Mrs. Buckley" and her committee served refreshments. MRS. WARREN BRIGHTY WOMAN’S CLUB SPEAKER Mrs. Warren Brlghty of Fort will be the guest speaker the, general meeting of the Decatur Woman's club to be held at the public library Monday evening at 7:45 o'clock. Mrs. Brighty plans to show “why a struggle for women’s rights sprang up out of history, leading them into a confused independence for which they ’paid an emotional price no woman of years past even suspected, and few women now understand. MEETS AT CHURCH The members of the Trinity W. S. W. S. met recently at the church with 18 members and three ! guests present. Mrs. John Kelley was program leader with her topic “The Way Up.” The prelude 1 was played by Mrs. Frank Bohnke, ' followed with the scripture read- • ing by Mrs. Herman Sautbine. • Mrs. Lloyd Kitson, Mrs. Blanche 1 Munrtna, Mrs. Clarence Morgan, ' and Mrs. Kelley, gave the lesfeon study of the Christian church in India. Pakistan, and Ceylon. The study was closed by repeat--1 ing quietly Mnd prayerfully the creed of a Christian home. Following the business meeting refreshments were served by Mrs. Sephus Jackson, Mrs. Harry Brown, and Mrs. Frank Bohnke. / B. P. W. HEARS TALK ON CIVIL DEFENSE The proposed civil defense program for Adams county was ex- , plained to members of the Business and Professional Women's club at their dinner meeting Wednesday evening at the Moose home. Marlene Laurent, a menjber of the club and also a member of the county civil defense advisory council, told of the need for a strong civil defense and explained to the club members what ,they could do to strengthen it. A film, “United States Civil Defense in Action," was shown to clarify some of the phases of civil defense that will be necessary. Miss Laurent stressed the role of women in civil defense, stating that it is most necessary that every one realize their part in the program. At the conclusion of her talk, members voted to support the civil Ideifense project in the county. They agreed to circulate petitions which will be presented to the county council asking that the council approve appropriations for the civil defense organization. The program for the evening was planned by the club's national se-_. curity committee .which is headed by Opal Drum. BUSINESS MEETING HELD BY AUXILIARY The American Legion auxiliary unit 43 held their regular business meeting Tuesday evening at the Legion home. Mrs. Frances Monahan, president, conducted the business session. The auxiliary has adopted a girl at the Indiana qirls school. .« ■ J April 5 will be the Poppy sdnool of Instruction, to be held Veterans hospital in Marion. Mrs. Herman Dlerkes and Mrs. Monahan will attend. All members Interested in the work may attend the meeting which will begin at 10 a. m. Donations will be sent to the Red Cross and the Fritz Kreisler musicians rehabilitation fund. It was announced that the unit will give a party for the patients at the Fort Wayne Veterans hospital, Wednesday, March 16, at 7 o’clock. Mrs. T. C. Smith, Mrs. Herman Diei;kes, Mrs. Elmer Darwachter, Mrs. Anola Crist, Mrs. Frances Monahan, Mrs. R. C. Hersh, and Mrs. Ed Bauer, are attending the fourth district meeting at Columbia City today. Department officers wil be* special guests. The next of iary will be a social meeting on March 22, with Mrs. Hsih uaaer as chairman. SORORITY HOLDS SPRING RUSH PARTY XI Alpha Xi and Delta Lambda chapters of Beta Sigma Phi sorority held their spring rush party at the home of Mrs. William Affolder Tuesday evening. Mrs. Barbara Stewart, Mrs. Poey Beamer, Mrs. Irene Gatchall, and Mrs.' Mary Ann Sipex, were rusheee. The new members were welcomed and the opening ritual was repeated. Gladys Kejler presented the members of Beta Sigma Phi to the guests, Helen Bair read the 25th anniversary book. ADAMS COUNTY PTA COUNCIL IS ORGANIZED The newly-formed Adams county council of P. T. A. met at the Adams Central school recently. The meeting was presided over by the president, Mrs. Herbert Braun, and the evening was spent in selecting chairmen and informing them of their duties. Plans' were also made for an information conference to be held at the Adams Central school May 9. Mrs. Joseph Hazelwood. RESEARCH CLUB HOLDS MEETING The Research club met at the home of Mrs. E. W. Cook recently with Mrs. Arthur Holthouse as program leader. She used as her topic “International Trade.” A group discussion followed and a business meeting was held with Mrs. Cook presiding. The n«ct meeting will be March 31, at the home of Mrs. Virgil Sexton, with Mis. Joe Thompson as leader. ENTERTAIN WOMEN OF OTHER CHURCHES On Tuesday at 7:30 o'clock. the Magiey church women entertained ladies from the Oralgville, St. Luke's Tocsin, Vera Cruz, and Pleasant Dale churches. Mrs. Milton Scherry and Mrs. Rcljand Scherry opened the program with the prelude, followed by Mrs. Milton Kruetzman reading the call to worship. Mrs. Elmer Beineke read the scripture and Mrs. Franklin Fruechte led the group in prayer. ! Arrest Woman For Child Abandonment Doris Morgan, using the alias > name of Caroline Jones, was arrested at 8 a. m. Wednesday by. deputy sheriff Charles Arnold on a warrant from Jay county where, she is charged with child abandonment. The woman was apprehended, immediately after her release from the Adams county memorial hospital where she had been a patient for about a week. Before her illness she had been staying in Monroeville. She was taken to Jay county this morning, where she will face charges of abandoning six minor children.
