Insect Damage To Be Meeting Topic Purdue Experts At Meeting March 11 Prospect* for insect damage next year will b« discussed by Glen Lebker, Purdue extension entomologist, at ths Co-op administration building in Monros Friday March 11. fLshker will bring local farmers up-to-dhle Information regarding ths abundance of such common pasts as chinch bugs, grasshoppers and spittle bugs and datt on spray applications In 1956. He will also point out any changes in control recommendations and shew how crop spraying is becoming an important farm operation. Also attending the meeting will be Gliver C. Lee, extension weed apeclaltst, who will answer questions concerning weed control. It has been calculated that 100 years ago It took a farmer five hours to produce a bushel of corn. Following World War 1, he had cut the time to 21 minutes end today the modern corn belt farmer does. the same job in tour mihutes. Modern methods of weed co®trol are responsible for some of the time saved. Chemicals in combination with cultivation have replaced th* hoe. Chemicala that have selective properties. so that they gan be applied to kill weed* in crops, have bee® discovered. Others of non-selective nature are used to destroy all vegetation.
