The public is Invited to attend Grandstaff Jailed As Parole Violator Frank Grandstaff, former Decatur resident who won freedom from a life prison sentence in Tennessee by writing the "Big Spring" cantata, is reported in jail again in Big Spring, Tex. Grandstaff was arrested Wednesday on an extradition warrant alleging parole violation in Wisconsin. He served from Aug. 27, 1952 to Nov. 6. 1954, in Wisconsin state prison on an attempted burglary charge. In Big Spring, Grandstaff has been playing a -piano at a case and night clerking in ah - tel. He has hired a lawyer to fight the parole violation charge. Washington—The earth at the equator measures about 21.600 nautical miles.

Kathryn Soidner On Dean's List Kathryn Soidner. daughter of Mr, and Mrs. John Soidner, R. R. I, Berne has been named to the dean’s honor list ut Taylor University for the first semester of the 196-4-55 academic year. Twentyseven students from the student body of approximately 500 received the honor. In order to qualify, a student must carry a minimum of 12 hours of academic work as a candidate for a degree and earn a scholastic standing of 2.6. The Taylor grading system credits three points for each hour of “A” grade, two for "B” and one for ] ”C” grades. i . ' Two Drivers Fined On Traffic Counts William J. Wervey, 29, of Fort Wayne, was arrested for speeding on South 13th street Wednesday at 9:45 a.in. He will appear in justice of ’he peace cotig Monday. Thomas C. Stallbaum, 44. of Mercer n.enue. was fined $1 and costs in J. P. court Wednesday noon on a charge of reckless driving. He was arrested Saturday night. State trooper Walter Schindler arrested Richdrd Renegar. 24. of Winchester, at 9 p.m. Wednesdayon U. S. 27 for passing on a yellow line. Renegar was brought into city court later Wednesday night and was fined $1 and costs. Fraudulent Check Passed Wednesday A $55 fraudulent check was passed in Decatur Wednesday afternoon. A man described to local police as about 21 entered a downtown store and purchased sls worth of merchandise. Police chief James Borders warned local merchants that fraudulent check passing is increasing. He stated that in accepting checks merchants should know- the endorser. He pointed out that many checkpassers use the names of local people as signees so it is especially important that the merchant know the person to whom personal checks are issued. Earl Adams Serving As Judge Pro Tem Earl B. Adams, former Adams county judge, is serving as judge pro tem today in Adams circuit court in the absence of Judge Myles Parish, -who is in Indianapolis.
