Dick Russell, the Dons' 6-foot, 10-inch center, scored 22 points in leading his teainmates to their 22nd win in 23 games. The University of Kentucky all but wrapped u.p its 16th Southeastern conference crown by defeating Alabama, 66 to 52, at Lexington. It was the 20th victory in 22 games for the country's sec-ond-ranked quintet. Kentucky took over undisputed possession of first place from Alabama and must play Tennessee this Saturday. A free-for-all melee broke out 20 minutes before game time in Lexington Monday night as two substitute players started an argument. The fracas began when Alabama’s sophomore guard. Jim Boi gan, became embroiled in an argument with Don Chandler, son of Happy Chandler, former U. S. senator from Kentucky. 1 State police stopped the battle. Alabama rallied in the second half and took a 48 to 47 lead. The one point advantage, however, was temporary as the Wildcats i. took complete command, holding the Crimson Tide to four 'free throws the rest of the way. lowa clinched at least a share of the Big Ten crown by defeating eighth-ranked Minnesota. 7 2to 70 at Minneapolis. The largest crowd ever to watch a basketball game on a Big Ten campus—2o.l76— saw the visiting lowans take over undisputed possession of first place from the Gophers. The lead changed hands 19 times while the score was deadlocked 17 times. County Junior High Tourney Opens Monday Adams Central, St. Joe of Decatur, Hartford and Berne teams won opening round games in the annual Adams county junior high basketball tourney Monday night. Adams Central led at all periods. 14-4, 22-6 and 36-8, to eliminate Monmouth in the opening game of the northern division tourney, played at Adams Central. AH 10 players used by the winners broke into the scoring column, led by Gerber with 12 points. Hoffman counted 10 Yor Monmouth. St. Joe whipped Pleasant Mills. 49-19, in the other north division tilt. Decatur was in front at all periods, 11 8. 28-14 and 39-16. Wilder paced the winners with 15 points and Ehrsam counted nine for Pleasant Mills. In the south division. Hartford defeated Geneva, 39-27, and Berne edged Jefferson, 23-21. Adams Central and St. Joe will meet in a semi-final tilt at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Adams Central gym. and Hartford and Berne will play at the Hartford gym at 7:30 o'clock this evening. The two division Winners will meet for the county cnampionshlp Thursday night, with the site and time do be announced following Wednesday night's gaihe at Adams Central. Gerald Strickler will officiate at Rushville and .Lores Lehman will work the Hammond tourney. Officials for the Fort Wayne regional are Stan Dubis, Maurice Criswell, Ed Straith-mMler and Dean Geyer. Regional Ticket Deadline Thursday The deadline for purchase of tickets for the Fort Wayne regional tourney is at 11 a m. Thursday. Loren S. Jones, Monmouth principal, reminded fans today.
