For many years, many Indiana citizens have felt that a city manager form of government would be more economical than our present system. It would take a constitutional amendment to make this type of government possible, and a resolution seeking that amendment has passed one general assembly and it must be approved by the present legislature to go to the people for a final vote. Many mayors and politicians are fighting the measure and its outcome is in doubt. Several strong indlana organizations” favor passage of the resolution. o o We congratulate Charles D. EhInger, president of Citizens Telephone Co. for the masterful job he has done in acquiring the common stock of the Argos and Nap- J panee telephone companies for his parent concern. The deal which has received the blessing of the Indiana Public Service cpmmission is one of the largest made by an Independent Hoosier telephone company in recent years. It will increase the operating size of Citizens by twentyfive percent Knowing the Citizens president as well as we do. we also believe that the telephone

Observance of Lent is traced by historians back to about the second century A.D. The word itself is a Teutonic word meaning spring season. Os course it has a much more significant religious meaning. The forty day% in ail probability, were designated as Lent because of the forty days which Jesus, Moses and Elias fasted. From the early middle ages the Lenten period has included the forty week days and six Sundays. Easter Sunday Itself has its own meaning and is not he Lenten period has much significance for the . Christian, starting with Ash Wednesday. It is a period of repentance and fast. It is a time during which we should invoice our own , lives and repent our sips. Catholics and Protestants alike observe the season, each in their own i way. Most Christians deprive themselves of certain pleasures during Lent. More important, however, is the fact that Lent brings us all closer, through the Church of our choice to God and what God means to us. Then will come Easter Sunday and the glorification of Christ and all that it., means to us. Let us forget the many sadnesses and conflicts in the'world today and bring our- ~ selves close to our Church.
