Coaches Pick Four Teams To Play In Finals INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — The four top teams selected by the coaches in the weekly International News Service Indiana high > school basketball poll received unanimous votes. Assuming that the coaches hit ( 10ft percent from the field that l would put Muncie Central, Ham- , mond, Fort Wayne Central and l Jasper in the March 19th finals at Butler Fieldhouse. , Only Crispus Attucks of Indianapolis in the southeastern semi- , final area also received a solid j vote and that was for second I place. Otherwise,, the coaches . agreed on the best but not the , bestest. Following Muncie Central and j Crispus Attucks in the southwest were Columbus "and for the first time, Connersville’s conquerors of 1 Attucks. < Kokomo, conqueror of mighty Muncie, was solidly entrenched in second place in the northeast but lost one second place vote to South Bend Washington, which won third spot. -ZJSrE “Wayne ” North clung to , fourth just a step ahead of the i 1953 champions from South Bend i Central, which defeated North last i time out. i Although Fort Wayne Central received a solid vote to w 7 ear the ! newly-formed Elkhart semi-final i crown into the Butler finals. Fort Wayne South, unseeded since early in the campaign, has given Central food for thought in two close decisions. Hammond was king of the northwest passage and Gary Roosevelt was considered second best bet to make it through the Lafayette fir- : ing. Crawfordsville’s late and fast coming quintet took third ahead of the Lafayette squad it handled so well when they met. Lafayette and Crawfordsville exchanged positions since last week when the Athenians hung one on the Jeffmen. Hamhtond Noll continues as the also ran of the northwest. ('oaches of the southwest have finally settled for four teams but. outside of Jasper’s poteht entry, the position can go anyway and , someone would be satisfied. New Albany’s defensely except for offense Bulldogs couldn't put enough votes together to regain second place from Seymour which . has had its bad moments. Evansville Lincoln, a team that may make a lot of tourney pickers sorry sUyed in fourth. Lincoln’s Lions are the only undefeated five to win a spot consistently through ' the season.
