WELCOME WAGON CLUB MEMBERS IN MEETING The "Welcome Wagon club members ami their guests enjoyed an evening at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Shannon. A spaghetti dinner was served and 18 members and guests were present. The members introduced their guests and the evening- was spent Playing cards and getting acquainted. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Jay Markley, February 28 at 7:30 o'clock. CALVARY WBWS IN MEETING FRIDAY 'The meeting ot the Calvary Evangelical Unite d Brethren W. 8. W. S. was held in thevhurch basement Friday, opening with scripture and prayer by Mrs. Geneva Drake. Following the business session the lesson “Mountains to be Moved," was presented by Doris McDermett, fallowed by the Lord's prayer. A luncheon was served by the hostesses, Mrs. lona Shifferly and Mis. Lorena Lichtenberger. NEEDLE CLUB MEETS MONDAY EVENING The Pythian Misters Needle club met last evening for a Valentine party. Committee in charge was Bessie Beehler, Pauline Beery, and Jennie August. During the business meeting bills were read and the minutes were read and approved. Joanna Kitspn. a meipber of the club, was reported improving. The door prize was won by Peg Crist. -

MONTHLY MEETING HELD BY SOCIETY The monthly meeting of the Zion Lutheran Missionary society was held in the parish hall, with Mrs. Lloyd Bowman reading the devotions. Rev. Schmidt presented the topic, "Win the Philippines and New Guinea for jChrist .” Mrs. Robert Nyftelei*- was welcomed as a new member. Mrs. Herman Krueckeberg conducted the business meeting at which Mrs. Walter Bauer outlined the program for the year and Mrs. Anna Kless discussed the projects for the coming months. Mrs. Paul Conrad reported that the visiting committee had made 15 calls during the month. Acknowledgements from five charitable institutions were read for the Christmas gifts sent them, and it was voted to give SIOO to the building fund of Zion. The meeting was closed with prayer. Dessert was served by the following hostesses: Mrs. Anna Kiess, Mrs. Ida Alt, Mrs. Mathilda Busse, and Mr. Ora Bauer. SORORITY HONORARY GROUP MEETS MONDAY Mrs. Nora Dell Smith flumble of Hawley, Pennsylvania, entertained the members of the Psi lota Xi honorary group, with readings of her own poems and selections. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. A. R. Holthouse. The hostess was assisted byMrs. W. P. Shriek, Mrs. Charles Knapp, and Mrs. Ralph Gentis, in serving refreshments. The Psi lota Xi sorority is sponsoring a Sweetheart party and square dance Saturday, February 19, from 9 o’clock tol2 midnight, at the K. of P. hall. Members of the sorority can bring another cpuple for sl. Those who cannot attend are? asked to call Mrs. Gene Rydell. The Rosary Society will meet Monday evening at—7:3o o’clock at the K. of £. hall. The Bobo Mt. Tabor Methodist W. S. C. S. will meet Friday with Mrs. Robert Franklin at 7:30 o’clock. ’ The V. F. At the Adams county memorial hospital: Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Grove of Decatur became the parents of a baby boy born Monday at 8:10 p.m., weighing seven pounds and ten ounces. A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Burger of Decatur today at 12:40 am., weighing seven pounds and seven ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Amstutz of Berne are the parents of a baby boy born today at 3:08 a.nd., weighing six pounds and four ounces.

Jessup today announced four changes in the status of personnel. _ —Cpl Fred Lee, of Indianapolis, was advanced to sergeant to fill ar£ existing vacancy at the Indianapolis district. Senator Knowland To Address Editors Speaker At Annual Indiana Meeting INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — Sen. William F. Knowland (tR-Calif.) today accepted the invitation to address the Indiana Republican editorial association’s 76th annual spring banquet. IREA president Leo C. Craig, of Delphi said the United States senate minority leader, who also publishes the Oakland, Calif., Tribune, will speak at the April 16th meeting in Indianapolis. Knowland was withthe armed forces overseas when, then California Governor, U. S. supreme court chief justice Earl Warren, named him to till the unexpired term caused by the death of Sen. Hiram W. Johnson. The senator was elected for the short term expiring Jan. 3, 1947, re-elected until 1953 and then reelected by the largest vote ever polled by any candidate in California. Pineau Hopeful Os Choosing Cabinet ~ Is Seeking Backing From Party Leaders PARIS (INS) — Veteran Socialist Christian Pineau seeks backing today..from party leaders for a left-of-center government which would end France's 10-day old cabinet crisis. Pineau, a 50-year old part-time writer of juvenile books, was given a 50-50 chance of succeeding where two other deputies already have failed. He will report to President Rene Coty tonight or Wednesday morning at the latest on whether he believes he can organize ■ France’s 21st post-liberation cabinet out of the sharply divided assembly. The last Socialist premier was Paul Ramadier, who served from Jan. to Nov. 1947, but Pineau has held various ministerial posts of cabinet rank during his long career. The Socialists were a hard core of support for Premier Pierre Mendes - France whose downfall brought on the current crisis, and .the premier designate said Monday hfs new government would follow at least some of MendesFrance's policies, particularly in the economic field.

Lightfoot was sentenced by Federal Judge Phillip Sullivan who overruled a defense motion for a new trial. Lightfoot, Illinois executive secretary of the Communist party, displayed no emotion as the sentence was read. His attorneys, John Abt and George B. Parsons, said they will appeal to the U. S. court of appeals. A jury found Lightfoot guilty Jan. 20 of belonging to the Communist party and knowing that the party advocated violent overthrow of the United States government.
