Indiana Prep Quintets Play Season Closers INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — If hearts beat faster in Indiana today, chances are the final week of pre-tourney basketball has as much to do with it as does St. Valentine. The biggest heartthrobs, with few exceptions, have light dates this week as final primping for the 752-achool promenade that will extend through March 19th is concluded. Muncie Central, chosen Nov. 17 by International News Service to be the state champ, closes at Frankfort, Friday. The Bearcats have an 18-1 record fashioned through a total of 1,219 points to 879 for all opponents. Indianapolis Crispus Attacks, also 18-1 with 124 points needed in two games to reach the coveted 1,500 mark, tangle with Indianapolis Howe Thursday and at Bloomington University, Friday. Evansville Lincoln, last major unbeaten squad. 10-J, tries Mater Dei, Tuesday, and Owensville, Friday. Jasper, another southwestern power, also is busy the same nights at Evansville Reitz and Frankfort. All these games offer no visible threat to the top teams. But two of the northwestern potential champions clash in a game that could spoil both's poise. The game pits Hammond against Lafayette Jefferson in a return engagement. Hammond goes into the game with 11 in a row since Lafayette slapped the Wildcats down last December. Jeff on the other hand has lost four of nine since then. Gary Roosevelt, winner of nine in a row since Hammond, closes against Hammond Tech. One of GT’s victims was Hammond Noll, which has won eight of nine since losing to Gary Roose-

Fort Wayne Central, 15-2, has two breathers to close, Decatur Tuesday and Concordia Saturday. Central has led the northwest since Muncie was transferred to the Indianapolis semi-final area. Certain to give the Bloomington area trouble before bowing out, if it bows out, is New Albany, whose weak defense has been hidden behind a strong offense in a 16-3 season. The Bulldogs close with Bloomington. Huntingburg, winner of nine of its last 10, is at Vincennes in another Friday closer. The Hunters are strictly outside chances.
