Three Are Dead In : Family Tragedies Farmwife Murders Husband And Self INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — Indiana state police today were<help- , ing Tippecanoe and Madison county officials probe two separate tami Uy trageaies which claimed three lives. t Sought is the motive which led 24-year-old Delores Tracy to kill her husband, Richard Dale, 25, as he entered his home near Romney in Tippecanoe county, then turn the 12-gauge shotgun on herself. Investigators said Mrs. Tracy apparently had fastened her two small children, Cynthia, 3, and Sylvia, 1, in a bedroom before carrying out her lethal mission. The children were unharmed. Cynthia told the county and state police: "Mommy shot Daddy.” The shooting occurred when Tracy, a tenant farmer, came home for lunch. Mrs. Tracy then used a mop handle to trip the trigger and shoot herself through the left breast. In a second family tragedy probed by state and Madison county officers, Belford C. McAdams, 23, a railroad worker, was found shot to death in his burning home four miles south of Anderson. The widow discovered the house on fire when she returned home after a visit with friends. When firemen carried out McAdams’ body, they found a bullet hole in the chesL A pistol also was found. Announces Opening Os Hoagland Office John H. () L|) St B-v-ttml BMOtßti Ilonana 811-1 L The Glosttt Bond Leeson for Vbbraary U, 1956 ««\I7HAT do you mean by eonV V version?” said a business mantos preacher. “You are always talking about IL I knew what conversion means in my business—l had to convert a plant from war time to peace time production. But what’s conversion in religion?" If the minister were smart, he would take up the RBEE3NRR business man’s « own illustration. «>1 Conversion in the Rfr W personal life is just '«w what it is in a sac- i ' £ tory, a change of f the personal life, a re-tooling, turning BOy, . > out something dis- - f ' - terent from what used to be turned Dr, Foreman out Before conversion a man may be, so to speak, in a state of war with himself, with his fellow men and even with God. After conversion he has peace of conscience, he lives at peace within and without Beni Apis The word “conversion" is used in different Christian circles to mean somewhat different things, or to be more exact, the word as some use it covers a long period of time, while with others it refers to one instant only. That is, "conversion" as Christians use the word esn mean a long, indeed life-long process of change, or It can mean tho very start of that long process. Now one of the favorite Bible expressions to describe the beginning of the new life to “turn." It to as simple as that Anybody who ever drove a car or sailed a boat rode a mule or even walked, knows what turning to. Children know tt You are headed in one direction and then you head in another. That's what conversion is. You are headed down the devil’s road and then you turn off on to God’s road—and they do not end at the same destination! But of course there to something that happens on the inside that makes the traveler want to turn: and this happenlng-on-the-tnside is what we can the New Birth. God brings the seed of the new life but we iidve lu lane uvei Irum Ute< r The New Birth is God’s pert, (eon version—turning—is ouv“ <p»rt the new life in Christ Sign of Life No farmer can create seeds, no scientific agronomist can put life into seed that is dead But the farmer has to put the seed into the ground, he has to keep the weeds out he has to do whatever that particular crop needs to nurse it along till harvest time How does he know that the seed is alive’ Only one way to tell, the'farmer would say. Does it come up? Does tt grow? So in the Christian life no one can look directly into a human heart and say, "Herels new life." But a truly converted, live Christian can be known by the signs of life. The jailer at Philippi described in Acts asked “What must I do to be saved?” and was told, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ:*. No one-could see him believing. No earners has yet been invented that will photograph the action of the human spirit or ths Divine Spirit But between mid night and morning there in the jail house that jailer gave good evi dence that he had really believed and that the Holy Spirit had really begun to change the direction of his life. Before midnight he had been a hard cruel man. Now we see him trying to undo the harm he has done. He unselfishly shares what he has, he to baptized as a sign of his new life, be is a happy nr an Everything New One of the points most often brought up by critics of Christianity trona the outside is that Chris tians seem not to be different from any one else, or not different enough to mat’ter There is a good deal of truth behind this AU churches have their share — some congregations seem to have more than their share—of members who have never beeh converted Their lives are tn the old worn-out pat tern of the world, there Is nothing new and vital and different about them Let us come down to brass tacks What is there that ought to be and will be new In a Christian s life? Certainly the center of his life will be different What Paul calls the "old! man” asks invar! ably about anything he does. “What’s in it for me? How wtU this help me to get ahead of other peo pie?" But the "new man in Christ" learns to ask. “Is this what Christ would do>" The learning some times comes hard, but it brings the deepest happiness known to man Righteousness consists in what man does not as well as in what he does. By faith turn your weights into wings. Don’t broadcast what will downcast.

CHURCH HEWS Union Chapel The parable of the sowen as recorded in Matthew 13:1-9 and 18-23, was the message brought by the tßev. William Snider at Union Chapel church Thursday evening. "A parable is an earthly story with an heavenly meaning. This parable is divined into three main pane, namely story, seed'and soil. The story is the multitude that had gathered to hear and see this man Christ Jesus. Sowers of the seed are Sunday school teachers and parents, and they must be devoted Christian characters. The seed is the Word of God and is powerful in soul saving. The gospel works in the hearts of men and women in the same manner as dynamite does in blasting, in that it is powerful. The soil is the heart, minds and human understanding of man and needs to be cultivated. There are four kinds of soil: hard crtsty, atony, thorny and good. Good soil is the ideal in planting of good seed. The other three types are very shallow and it is easy for the word of God to be planted, but there is not enough depth for it to take root and grow. It doesn't take anything to be a sinner, but it takes a man and woman filled with the Grace of God to be a Christian. What kind of soil are you?” Sunday evening the Leo Lani Hawaiian quintet from the Fort Wayne Bible college will bring the message in song. At 7:15 there will be prayer services in the basement. There will be services on Saturday evening, and the services start each evening at 7:30. Rural Churches ST. PAUL MISSIONARY Morning Worship 9:16 A. M. Sunday School 10:16 A. M. Young Peoples 7:00 P. America Far Christ By Mrs. J. R. Meadows The world is full of treasures, and some we hold in our hearts as of great worth. But too often man’s treasure is glittering gold which he accumulates and hoards until he becomes as cold and hard as (ho gold itself. He has no time to think of those things which are eternal and Godgiven. for his heart is filled with the thought of his earthly possessions. How tragic is the life built on those things which lead to destruction, for man reaps in eternity what he has sown here! How different is the Spirit-filled life that is laying up treasure in Heaven! Deeds of kindness, acts of mercy, letting one’s life shine for Christ—all this is a part of the Master's work, and what joy it brings! The reward is God’s gift of contentment of mind and happiness of heart, for this man has built his treasure in Heaven and that insures him life with Jesus Christ. Therefore let us lay up treasure in Heaven. Meet with God’s people next Sunday in the church of your choice.
