Lutheran Speaker IBk BLa. Prof. Lorman Peterson of Concordia Seminary, Springfield, 111., will be discussion leader at the Lutheran laymen’s league seminar Sunday at 8 p. m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran church at Preble. His uipic will be the new standard revised version of the Bible. These seminars are designed to present a timely topic of vital interest to every Lutheran laymanman or woman—on the work of the church and the layman’s responsibilities as a Christian citizen. A question and answer period will follow the discussion. The seminar ia sponsored by the Decatur zone of the Lutheran laymen’s league, with Otto Boerger, Rudy Koenemann and Herman Blakey the committee in charge. Opening and closing devotions win he conducted bv the Rev. O. C. Busse, pastor of the host congregation. _

Simple smears of sputum and gastric concentrates, previously positive for the tubercle bacillus in all subjects, tested negative in 30 patients. The three scientists, all of New York Medical College, conducted the tuberculosis trials at the New York Metropolitan hospital. Dr. Henry Welch, of the food and drug administration, reported on the genlto-urlnary tract research with “seromycin” during which 77 persons afflicted with that type of disease were treated. The patients were treated by Dr. George R. Nagamatsu and Dr. Lois Lillick, of the New York Medical College, and Dr. Russell D. Herrold, of the University of Illinois Medical College. Dr. Welch summarized their findings as follows: 1. Gpqd clinical results were obtainetk'ih 46 of 62 stubborn infections of the genito-urinary tract which had resisted all other treatment. 2. In 36 of the cases responding favorably, the infecting organisms were cleared from the urinary tract. Twenty - one cases were mixed infections representing 14 types of infecting organisms. ■, 3. Nine patients were treated prophylacticaily to prevent infection with good results. Dates Announced For 1955 Mra. John Leyse and'Mrs. Holman Egly, officers of the Home Demonstration past presidents club, met recently with the county home agent to set dates for their 1955 meetings. The spring meeting has been set Friday, April 15, and the fall meeting will take place Oct. 21. The French township home demonstration club will serve the April dinner. Arrangements for the fall meeting will be made in April, Division Omitted From Union Institute Announcement has been made by Cecil Shaffer, chairman of the Union Township farmers institute Friday, that the ladies exhibit of the institute will include a division for a dozen brown eggs. The division was omitted in the printed program which appeared in the Decatur Daily Democrat last week. Prizes will be awarded for the top three entries in this division.
