Bob Failing Tops In Polio Sweepstakes Robert G. Farling copped the Polio Sweepstake*, conducted by the Decatur bowling association during the month of January, rolling games of 224-206-247, which, with his handicap of 46, gave him the big total of 722. There was a total of 310 entries in the sweepstakes, including 271 from Decatur and 39 from Berne. At |1 per entry, 50 percent of the total goes to the March of Dimes, or |155, with the other 50 percent going into the prise list. Robert Mutschler,. president of the association; Oran L. Schultz, association secretary, and alt other association officials and league secretaries expressed their appreciation today to the bowlers for their splendid response to this first Polio Sweepstakes In Decatur. Minnesota In Big Ten Lead By Half Game By International News Service Kentucky, the nation's secondranked college basketball team, staged two rallies Monday night to subdue a stubborn Mississippi State team, 61 to 56. The Southeastern Conference victory was the 15th win in 17 starts this season for coach Adolph Rupp’s team. The Wildcats had another close can in Pinning the contest. Billy Evants, senior Kentucky guard, dropped in a layup with a minute and 49 seconds left in the game for a 57 to 56 advantage. Then junior forward Jerry Bird scored two free throws and forward Phil Grawemeyer scored a basket to give the Wildcats their five-point victory edge. Duquesne, rated sixth in the International News Service nationwide poll, downed Vijlanova, 66 to to 58. Georgia Tech, which handed Kentucky its only two losses of the season, beat Auburn 75 to 67. Illinois, listed ninth on the INS survey, edged Michigan, 81 to 80, to go into a second-place Big Ten conference tie with idle lowa. Decatur And Berne Teams Split Honors Decatur teams divided honors with Berne quintets in a double header played at the Berne gym Monday evening. Decatur junior high defeated Berne, 49-33, in the opener. The Decatur lads led at all periods, 18-5, 33-13 and 42-28. Dellinger and Costello each tallied 10 points for Decatur, and Collier was high for Bene with nine.
