Berne Wallops Ossian Quintet By 59-36 Score The Berne Bears had little difficulty registering their 13th victory of the season Saturday night, belting the Ossian Bears, 59-36, at the Ossian gym. Berne piled, up a 29-16 advantage in the first half and was never In danger from the Wells county Quintet. ~ John Klrchbofer led Berne with 18 pointe, 14 of them on free throws, while Al Egly counted 12. Eagles Defeat Hoagland Five Saturday Night The Monmouth Eagles scored their second triumph in as many nights, and their 12th of the season Saturday night by downing the Hoagland Wildcats, 47-41, on the Monmouth court. It was a close battle between their neighboring rivals, with Monmouth on top by only one point, 21-28, at the half. Norb Witte, angular center, led the Eagles to victory with 25 points, while L. Beerman was high for Hoagland with 17 markers. The Eagles play the Spartans at Pleasant Mills Tuesday night. Eight of the county's nine’teams will be in action both nights, with only the Geneva Cardinals engaging in a single contest. Standout attractions are offered both nights, although only one of the 13 games will be played in Decatur. Tops in general interest Tuesday night will be the Mon-mouth-Pleasant Mills clash at Pleasant Mills. The Spartans won a regular season game, 65-47, but the Eagles countered with a 65-4? victory in the county tourney. That was the only loss by Pleasant Mills to another county team so far this season, L_ —oOo h— The Decatur Commodores clash with the Adams Central Greyhounds at Adams Central In another toptlighter Tuesday. Adams Centra! downed the Commodores, 59-55, in a previous tilt. The Decatur Yellow Jackets travel to New Haven Tuesday to meet the Bulldogs in a Northeastern Indiana contest. Other games on tap Tuesday: Blufftot at Berne, Jefferson vs Madison at the Berne nudStottum, and Chester Center at Hartford. The Commotores will be heAs to the Pleasant Mills Spartans at the Decatur gym Friday night. Tne Commodores were whipped by the Spartans, 86-67, In the season opened, and are out tor_ revenge. The Yellow Jackets will be on the road again Friday night, journeying to Portland to meet the Panthers. Top county game sends the Monmouth Eagles against the Greyhounds at Adams Central. The Eagles hold two victories over the Greyhounds, 59-57, early in the season, and a 63-57 overtime throller in semi-firials of the county tourney. Other games Friday: Montpelier at. Deadline for schools to file entries with the IHSAA is Wednesday of this week, and all entriel must toe in the IHSAA office before 4 p. m. Feb. 9. Geneva sizzling the nets with 72 points in two games last week, has increased his season scoring total to 456 points in 18 games, an average of 25.3 points per game. Leon Byer, Pleasant Mills, is second with 366
points in 16 games, only four points above Joe Wilder of the Commodores. Norb Witte, Monmouth, has 343 points for a close fourth. Reports Zeke Young Shows Improvement Jerome Ginter, who has returned from the St. Joseph hospital in Fort Wayne, reports that he was a patient in the same room with Cecil (Zeke) Young, veteran coach at Auburn high school, and well known in Decatur. He reports that Young, who underwent an eye operation, is improving and is expected to be released within a few days. Ginter also said that Young expects to retire from coaching this year.
