Three Major Prep Quintets Still Unbeaten INDIANAPOLIS (INS) —lt becomes increasingly mare apparent w|th each banket fired that three major teams may start the high school hardwood race with perfect records. It also is possible that two of the three will be standing, smiling, still unbeaten when the final foursome open firing in Butler Fieldhouse, March 19. Only Terre Haute (Garfield of 1947 and Jeffersonville of 1935 ever got to that final game without falling. Each fell. But the superstition could be broken this time running depending on the draw for the finalist afternoon opponents, if the Bloomington and Indianapolis semi victors aren't paired.. .Hoosier Hobpla fan could easily see two unbeatens battle for the title. Muncie Central, the International News Service ehoice for the state title, has through Coach Jay McCreary announced its intentions of

going all the way. To do that, Central's Bearcats will have a get by a tremendously impressive Crispus Attucks Tiger team that also is unbeaten and bent on remaining so. These two should decide the Indianapolis semi-flnaiist victory and the winner ,of the titanic clash should go on to the state championship, despite all superstition. The other candidate for the honors is Evansville Lincoln's tall Lions. These Cats can go and only the lack of a first-class schedule keeps them from drawing the headlines usually given Attucks and Central. , One thing is certain with Lincoln (or the other two) it will take more than a legislative enactment to put this band of hotetots out of action in the tourney. For those given to superstition, now would be the time to worry for each of the teams has taken its 13th straight victim into camp. Crispus Attucks has been most impressive against the most impressive list of competitors. The Tigers have averaged 95 points per game while allowing 70 per outing. Only Shortridge in a double overtime city tourney final thriller by 60-58 got closer than 10 points to the Tigers. Shortridge rued the day Tuesday by a 93-62 lacing.
Week's Schedule Os Adams County Basketball Teams DIAL Ml7l FOR BCOREB Friday Yellow* Jackets at Auburn. Adams Central at Bryant. Pleasant Mills at Ohio City. Geneva at Poling. Jefferson at Gray. Berne at Angola. Saturday Jefferson at Geneva. Muncie hasn’t been running with slouches either but it has been held to one point by Lafayette (no disgrace) and under 10 points on several occasions. Muncie has averaged 8-2 points to opponents 62. Comparative scores leave little room for choice. Attucks defeated Fort Wayne North by 11 points while Muncie did it by 10. Muncie beat Gerstmeyer by 14 points while Attucks did it by 13. None of the three unbeatens meet. 'Lincoln's is the best defensive mark average about 42 while canning 62 itself. Although Lincoln's toes haven't been the toughest the Lions have chewed off victories from Central. Memorial, Rein and Cathedral in a tough city for basketball supremists. None of the three may make the grade unbeaten or otherwise but at present no three teams have a better chance to go all the way unbeaten. Trade in a Good Town — Decatur

Ray Robinson Defeated By Tiger Jones -It—. CHICAGO (INS) — A far from discouraged Sugar Ray Robinson still is intent today on a comeback to the middleweight championship heights, despite a one-sided defeat by Ralph (Tiger) Jones. Jones, a 3 to 1 underdog, upset the odcfs Wednesday night at .tJv Chicago stadium by battering out a unanimous 10-round decision ov, er the ex-champion. Robinson, bleeding from the nose and.Jrom _a_cut oyer_the_ right eye for most of the bout, said afterwards in his dressing room. "I have no alibis —that's one T lost. Let's get another fight.” His manager. Joe Glaser, was bitter over the selection of such a tough x fighter as Jones for Robinson's second comeback ■ fight, following a 30-month layoff. Glaser shouted. “1 knew it all along. I was against this fight from the first and I.told the International Boxing Club so. I knew Jones was a strong and willing-boy—too rough for Sugar Ray. at this stage of his comeback.” Both Robinson and Glaser assured sports writers and sportscasters that Robinson will continue fighting. Glaser said that Sugar. Ray will resume training, following a brief rest, although no opponent has yet been lined up for the former champion. Robinson's trainer added"* jocu-. lar note to the post-fight talk when he said: "The trouble ' with Sugar Ray was that he got' out of the habit of keeping his hands up while he was dancing during the layoff." Sugar Ray tired early in his battle with Jones. He showed, a good left jab but his right w*as uncertain and lacked steam. As early as the second round. Jones clubbed Robinson into the ropes with a two-fisted attack which drew blood from the exchampion’s right eye and had him swaying and unsteady on hLs feet. Jones carried the fight to Robittson almost al+ the-way—punish-ing him with left hooks to the head and rocking him repeatedly with punching flurries. In the ninth round. Jones drove Sugar Ray around the ring. Robinson seemed tired after the third round and watched the clock anxiously in the clinches. Sugar Ray rallied in the final round hut he was too tired and Jones had too much of a margin on points for the ex-chainpion jo swing the tide.

CHOWDERHEAD CHARLEY £4- : THE BUMPER HOPPER IT SEEMS this guy “Chowderhead” Charley was a bumper hopper. He’s the type that goes along at a fast dip practically riding on the bumper of the car ahead. “Chowderhead” is the dare-devil type who has more faith in his brakes than brains in his head. He never figured what he would do if the guy ahead made a sudden stop and his own brakes wouldn’t hold ... That’s what happened and boom! Our man gets the call, wraps up his tools, pulls out the wrecker, and he’s off. <3 One night our man found this “Chowderhead” Charley looking Over his wrecked front end. He got behind a big truck. The wreck was a beautiful job .. . from a repair angle, that is. No one got hurt badly which was a miracle in these bumper hopper cases. As we ve said before, we’d rather have the job of keeping your car in good repair than get jounced out at all hours to pick up a wreck that gives us a big rebuild job. It isn’t that we don’t want and like good auto body jobs but we would rather have them without risk to your life and limb. / -A * We’ve got a fine crew of first-class auto doctors around our big place at 126-128 South First Street. Every one of them knows how important the brakes and other, safety equipment on your car is and the know how to check each item so you’ll be able to control your car at~*U times. Our factory trained men can put extra grip in your brakes. Zip and Grip are both safety factors you need in tight emergencies. It’s hard to avoid bumper hoppers but it’s easy to avoid breakdowns on the road .. . Come in to our place any time and see. Our prices are reasonable. V BUTLER’S GARAGE 126-128 $.
