FORMER DECATUR RESIDENT ENGAGED Mr. and Mrs. John Hostrup of Fort Wayne have announced the engagement of their daughter. Ruth, to Miles C. Gerberding, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold H. Gerberding, also of Fort Wayne. The Gerberdings are former residents of Decatur. Miss Hostrup was graduated from Concordia high school in Fort Wayne and attended Concordia Teachers College at River Forest, Hi. She is a teacher at the Uethlehem Lutheran school Her fiance is a graduate of Concordia high school and Indiana university, where he was a member of Kappa Delta Rho social traternity. He is now a student at thr Indiana university law school. SHAKESPEARE CLU> ELECTS OFFICERS Miss Bertha Heller was elected president of the Ladies Shakespeare dub at a meeting Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Earl Adams. Mrs. Simon Heemstra was named secretary of the club. Officers reelected for the coming year include Miss Frances Dugan, vice-presi-dent; Mrs. D. B. Erwin, assistant secretary, and Mrs. Phillip Macklin. treasurer. The program for the Wednesday meeting featured a discussion on “Women in Business,’* led by Mrs. Maynard Hetrick. The next meeting will take place at the home of Mrs. Jesse Rice with Mrs. L. C. Pettibone in charge of the program. PSI OTES HAVE SOCIAL MEETING A demonstration on floral arrangements was presented by Mrs. Iron Lutes at a social meeting of Psi lota Xi sorority Wednesday evening in the Elks home. Theme of the party was “June and Jan” and was carried with bridal dolls, candles and bells. A small potted begonia plant was given to each member. Refreshments wergrserved. The committee in charge was headed by Miss Shirley Fuelling. Assisting here were Mrs. Ted Hill, Mrs. Robert August, Mrs. LaVerne Roth. Mrs. J. S. Knudson and Miss, Madeline Friend. The next meeting of the - sorority will be a business session at the home of Mrs. Richard Linn Feb. 2. yjLOYAL DAUGHTERS HAVE CLASS MEETING Mrs. Robert Garard was hostess to the Loyal Daughters class of Bethany E. U. B. church Tuesday evening. Mrs. Ora Newhard was assisting hostess. Mrs. James Staley, president, presided over the business meeting. The Loyal Daughters will serve the Men's club banquet February 21 when they entertain their ladies, Fourteen members reported to roll call. Refreshments were served at the close of the .meeting. The meeting next month will be with Mrs. Ed Warren. HISTORICAL CLUB MEETS WEDNESDAY Mrs. Will Dellinger was hostess to the Historical club Wednesday afternoon with sixteen members and one guest, Mrs. Lucy W’atklns,* present. Mrs. Henry Adler presided during the business meeting. Mrs. Roy Price had charge of current events and gave an interesting paper on “The G. I. and the Kids of Korea." Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Taylor of Lafayette are the parents of a 10 pound four ounce baby girl, born this week in the Lafayette hospital. Mrs. Taylor is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick McConnell of this city. At the Adams county memorial hospital: ~~~ Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Thomas of Monroeville are the parents of a hoy, born at 7 a.m. today. The baby weighed nine pounds, one ounce. Motorist Arrested On Speeding Charge Samuel ,G. Grimes, 21. of 251 South Second street, was arrested at 11 o'clock Wednesday night for speeding 55 miles an hour on Second street. He will appear in justice of the peace court. Max Sheets, of route 5, was fined $14.75 for disregarding a stop sign. The offense occurred five miles south of DOcatur on U. S. highway 27 at 8:15 p. m. January 9. County Clerk Speaks To Young Democrats Ed Jaberg, county clerk, describ’ ed the duties of several county offices at the meeting of Adams county Young Democrats Wednesday night at the home of Miss Rosemary Spangler" "The duties and responsibilities of the auditor, treasurer, assessor, recorder, surveyor and clerk were discussed by Jaberg during the program. Questions from the members fob lowed. v Jaberg’s talk was the first of a series planned by Young Democrats to become acquainted with the nature of all of the elective offices of the county. Following Wednesday night's program, refreshments were se’ffved by the hostess. Ernest Weatherholt Dies in Arizona PHOENIX, Ariz. UNS) — Ernest Weatherholt, of Evansville, died Wednesday of a heart attack in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Phoenix, Ariz. The 62-year-old president of Hoosier Liquors Corporation, at Evansville, had been Indiana's assistant secretary of state from 1948 to 1950. He had been prominent in Democratic party affairs for many years. The Tobinsport native was personnel director of the state highway commission for two years and had been a field examiner of the state board of tax commisisoners under Govs. Paul V. McNutt. M. Clifford Townsend and Henry F. Schricker.

(INS) — David A. Gaither, 18. of Shoals, was killed late Wednesday when he lost control of his car and it struck a bridge and ended in a creek along a Martin county road two miles south of Indian Springs.
Youth Arrested On Phony Check Charge INDIANAPOLIS (INS)Twen-ty-year-old George Ralph Mullins, of Bonner Springs, Kans., was arrested in Indianapolis Wednesday night on phony check charges from back home. Mullins was jailed under 11,600 bond, as a fugitive. He admitted passing a fraudulent check on a bank in Kansas City. Mo., Jan. 17. Police said they found a suspicious check on a Terre Haute bank in Mullins' possession when he stepped from the bus. Held In Bond For Grand Jury Action INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — John B. Wilson. 29, of Sullivan, was held under $2,000 bdnd for grand jury action in Indianapolis today on charges of passing $831.50 in worthless checks.

Two Are Arrested On Vice Charges INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — A Terre Haute man and woman are being held under 85,000 bond each following their arrests by IndienapVlis police on vice charges. Naomi Ruth Childress. 23, was charged with obscene conduct, protitution and vagrancy and her companion. Willis Ganger, 43, was charged with pandering and vagrancy.
