LEAGUE PLANS SKATING PARTY A skating party for members of the Inter-river tone Walther League 'Will take place at Bell's skating rink in Fort Wayne Monday at 8 p. in. The league is the association for Lutheran young people.' Tickets for the skating party will be sold by members of the league and at the door. All members are invited to attend and to bring guests. MONROE CLUB STUDIES SALADS Mrs. Harry urownover was hostess for a recent meeting of the Monroe Better Homes Demonstration club. Mrs. Lester Ehrsam and Mrs. Loren Burkhead assisted. "salads for Better Health" was the topic of the lesson presented by Mrs. Leonaid Johnston and Mrs. Martin Steiner. During the business session the group voted ■to give S 5 to the polio fund. Also featured was the recitation of the club creed,' group singing, devotions led by Mrs. Crownover and prayer by Mrs. James ■Nussbaum. Mfrs. Ctfkford Essex presided. A social hour followed. A guest, Mrs. Jane Summersett, ' and 23 members were present. TRI-KAPPA AIDS RILEY PATIENTS A social meeting of Tri Kappa sorority .took place Tuesday evening at the Elks home. Members spent the evening sewing toy bags for children at the Kiley hospital in Indianapolis. Mrs. Kenneth McConnell, chairman of the Riley cheer guild, presented a talk on the children's •ward at the hospital. Dessert was served by the committee including Mrs. McCdnnell, Mrs. Lyman Hann and Mrs. Dale Alber. The next meeting of the sorority will be a business session Feb. 1 at the Elks home. Gift boxes of homemade cookies and candy, prepared for the ladies of the county home were displayed. ‘The group voted to contribute to the “Save the Dunes" campaign, a drive to discourage the use of the Dunes state park land for a proposed commercial lake harbor. Refreshments were served during the social hour by the hostess, who was assisted by Mrs. Lutes. The February meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Calvin Yost. LITEATURE GROUP TO MEET MONDAY —, Mrs. D. H. Hostettei of the Fort Wayne branch of the American Association of University Women will be guest speaker at a meeting of the Literature department of the Decatur Woman’s club at 7:45 p. m. Monday in the public library. "Streamlining the Classics” will be the topic of Mrs. Hostetter's discussion. The guest speaker Is a graduate of De Pauw university and is active in Fort Wayne civic theater, Y. W. C. A. and P. T. A. activities. She is a frequent speaker in the Fort Wayne region. MEETING FEATURES SAFETY PROGRAM ~ The first meeting of the year for the Preble t&wnship Farm Bureau members was held at the Friedheiin school recently. A movie on safety was featured. Devotions were led-by Mrs. Irwin Worthman and group singing followed. Beverly and Ann Kruetzman presented vocal solos and the group participated in a safety quiz. Richard Miller presided at the business session. Refreshments were served. ' ■ ■ • 11 "9 ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR DECATUR CLUB The Decatur home demonstration club won the annual achievement award for its activities during 1954. it was learned at the heme demonstration council meeting Tuesday afternoon. The Decatur club total ed 1,013 points. They will receive a trophy at the annual farmer's 'achievenventt banquet, sponsored by the Decatur Chamber of Commerce. Second and third place clubs were the St. Mary's and Limberlost groups, with 941 and 883 points

A number of "important item#, were discussed, including the year’s program, a county picnic next summer, and another officers training school. County agent Leo.N. Seltenright was introduced to tne group. Program books and health and safety pamphlets were distributed to the club representatives. Corrected membership lists were submitted, and a map showing the location of each club’s members was suggested, sq that the council could z see where new clubs should be located. Dates and lesson topics for the county home agent were submitted by each club. The song of the month books were also passed out to the representatives. Refreshments were served, by the county extension " staff after the meeting at the extension office. MERRY MATRONS CLUB HAS MEETING TUESDAY Mrs. Ervin Fuelling was hostess for the meeting of the Merry Matrons club Tuesday. A lesson on salads was presented by Mrs. Arthur Krueckeberg. A new member, Mrs. Vincent Wurm, was welcomed into the club. Mrs. Wilbur Thieme led group singing and Mrs. Walter Thieme led devotions. Refreshments were served by the hostess, with the assistance of Mrs. Otto Burger. The next meeting of the club is scheduled for Feb. 15 at the home of Mrs. Amos Thieme. C. L. C. DINNER HELD TUESDAY • Members of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia enjoyed a pot luck dinner Tuesday evening at the C. L. C.halL Mrs. Rose Tanvas and Mrs. Peter Miller were chairman and vice-chairman of the comTnittee’in charge; The program far the evening featured card games. EAGLES AUXILIARY HAS BANQUET The Decatur Eagles auxiliary was host to Van Wert, 0., auxiliary officers, degree team and drill team at a banquet Tuesday evening in rhe Eagles hall. for round and square dancing which followed the dinner was provided by the Tehele orchestra. The welcome committee included Mrs. Richard Baker, Mrs. Arthur Erwin and Mrs. Evelyn Spangler. Mrs. Ray - Kramef, assisted by Mrs. Theodore Bentz and Mrs. Ray Ven is, was in charge of the dining room. On the kitchen committee under Mrs. Wesley Morris were Mts. Sephus Melrhi of North Third street is maS-klng his 83rd birthday today. Mrs. Melcbi -was 80 on Jan. 7. Mr. Melchi served for forty yeras on the Decatur police force and for four years was Adams county sheriff. No special celebration was planned since both are in poor health. Joe Holthouse of the Hoithouse furniture company has been named chairman of the retail division of the Portland Chamber of Commerce for the coming year. Lee R. Collins, an employe of the state highway department at Bluffton, has been cited to appear in J. P. court there. Collins had a highway pick-up truck parked Friday night in the north bound lane of state road one near Ossian. The truck was hit by a semi-trallor which jack knifed. Garth Dur of Lancaster township has been elected president of the Wells county coon hunters club. Mr. and Mrs. Merl Sippel -of New Castle and Mrs. Lillie DeWitte of Indianapolis were weekend guests of Mrs. Minnie Teeple. Mrs. Sippel is Mrs. Teeple's granddaughter anfliirs.
