Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Steffen of Bluffton. The wedding took place Dev. 31 in Fort Wayne at the home of the Rev. C. R. Lane, who performed the ceremony, The couple resides at 628 South Bond street in Bluffton. The bride was formerly employed at the Bag Service in Decatur. TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB HAS MEETING A lesson on salads was featured at a recent Greeting of the Town and Country Home Demonstration club at the home of Mrs. Leo Teeple, president. The lesson was presented by Mrs, Irenius Gase and Mrs. Mark ColchiiL Mrs. Teeple gave a report on the county training school for demonstration officers which took place in December at the Adams Central school. Other officers presented reports and the club voted to participate in the Heart Fund drive. Refreshments were served to 14 members and one guest. Mrs. Teeple was assisted by Mrs. Homer Reace. MRS. Mr.,and Mrs. Clyde Foster of Monroeville. The baby weighed seven pounds. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Herman of Berne are the parents of a girl born at 5:35 p.m. Sunday, weighing five pounds, 11‘ ounces. A baby boy weighing seven pounds 11 ounces, was born at 9:43 p.m. Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Don Hess of-Decatur.
Mrs. Charles Holthouse, Miss Florence Holthouse and Miss Margaret Holthouse were in South Bend Sunday visiting Sr. M. Gabrielita, who is confined to St. Joseph hospital there. Mrs. Keller is a daughter of the late Dr. Stewart Niblick. Four Young Persons Die In Auto Crash Report Two Others Injured Seriously ~ EPHRATA, Pa. (INS) — Four persons were killed early today and two others were injured seriously when their car failed to make a turn and crashed through a guard rail on the DenverReamstown road in Lancaster county. The dead were identified as Robert D. Charles, 18, of Manheim, RD 1; Donald Plank, 20, of Lancaster; 7 Shirley A. Fisher, 19, of Reinholds; and Carol E. Loose. 19, of Denver, RD 2. "the injured who were admitted to Ephrata Community hospital were the driver, Donald E. Seachrist, 22 of Lancaster, and Eugene T. Mattern. 21, of Lancaster. Mattern whs listed as critical. State policeman Harold Yost quoted Seachrist as saying the group had been at the Denver American Legion post. Police said the car failed to negotiate a curve, struck a guard rail, crashed through a heavy post protecting a utility pole, splintered the utility pole and came to a stop straddling the guard rail cable. The roof and doors of the automobile were torn off, according to Yost. One victim was found under the car, two in a field, two on the highway and one in the car. Airman Paul J. Gensemer, of Reinholds, home on leave from Washington, D. C.. told police he passed the car near the curve and witnessed the crash through his rear vision mirror. The victims were pronounced dead on the scene by deputy coroner Jacob-*Brubake¥ of Denver. Aatos Collide At - Railroad Crossing Cars driven by Amos Huser, 64. of Berne route two, and Norwin Hoffman, 24, of Decatur route two, collided Sunday at 1:30 a.m. at a railroad crossing on a county road two miles south of the Decatur drive-in theater. The cars met at the crossing and both drivers applied their brakes. The slippery tracks caused skidding, and the vehicles hit, resulting in a total of $450 damage. No one was injured. Sheriff Merle Affolder investigated. Hawaii produces 70 percent of the world’s pineapple.

Kieppers Complete Caribbean Cruise Mobile, Ala—Mr.' and Mrs William A. Klepper returned from a cruise of the Caribbean area today. arriving at Mobile aboard the 15,000 ton luxury cruise ship the SS Alcoa Cavalier. The 16-day trip extended through a large part of the Caribbean area and included .visits to lands of many nationali.ties. The cruise took in , such ports as La Guaira, Puerto Cabello, and tluanta (all in Venezuela); Port of Spain, ’ Trinidad —“the- Cross-* roads of the World”; Kingston, Jamaica, in the British West Indies; and the scene of Christopher Columbus’ final visit in the CaribibeanJCludad Trujilhx Dominican Republic. The home residence of Mr. and Mrs. Klepper is 320 Mercer Ave., Decatur, Ind. Two Are Named To County Committee Henry Rumple, of the Beef committee, and Harold Schwartz, of the crops committee, have been selected to r&resent their respective groups on the county extension committee, it was learned today. The beef committee met Saturday and elected Paul Kohne chairman,, Ambrose Spangler, vicechairman; and Walter Lengerich, secretary. July 8 was set as the date for the 4-H beet tour, and J. C. Ralston, of the extension staff at Purdue, will accompany the group. „ Walter Thieme was elected chairman of the crops committee recently, Erwin Schuller, vicechairman; and Michael Lehman, secretary - treasurer, Herbert Schaadt and Joe Isch were chosen to be directors. Sentences Suspended On Good Behavior Chalmer W. Snider, Jr., of Willshire, 0., and Robert Huser, of route 1, Monroe, were each fined $lO and costs and sentenced to 60 days in the state penal farm for disorderly conduct. The sentence was suspended pending good behavior. The two men were arrested fighting on Second street with a crowd of 25 or 30 persons watching about 6 p.m. Saturday. They appeared at 10 o’clock this morning before Mayor John Doan in city court. Russell J. Hirschy of French township, was fined a total of $19.75 for disregarding a stop sign on U. S. highway 224 about 2»4 miles west of Coppess corners on January 10. Hirschy missed the intersection, and rolled his car on the other side. He appeared in mayor’s court this mornings Arrest :jM>d . th®- IcOr Two Drivers Fined On Traffic Counts Curtis P, Jones, of 904 Dierkes street, was" fined $1 and costs for disregarding a stop sign six miles east of Decatur on U. S. highway 224 at 4 p.m. Friday. Jones was arrested by state police after the car he was driving - slid through the stop sign, hitting a car and causing minor damage. Roy L. Deßolt, of route 1, Willshire, O„ was fined $1 and costs for making an improper turn at Second and Monroe at 11:15 a.m. Saturday. Deßolt was arrested by the city police.
Farm Co-Operatives Doing Big Business Nine, Half Billion Dollars During Year WASHINGTON (INS) — Farmer co-operatives transacted a whacking nine aijd one-half billion dollars worth of business for their members in the latest marketing year for which information is available. Figures made public today by the Farmer Cooperative Service also showed that total membership in these organizations reached a record seven and one-half million during the 1952-53 marketing year. This shows how far the cooperative movement has advanced in the past decade. Ten years ago total membership was 0n1y,,,a little more than half of what it la now, although the rate of growth has slowed down considerably in the past couple of years. Official estimates are that the present membership actually consists of about three million farmers. Individuals may belong to two, or three or even more Cooperatives and so may be counted more than once in the total. The latest tally shows a decline of 52 in the number of cooperatives from the previous marketing year. But this results in large part from mergers or consolidations of.
