If through a combination of unfortunate circumstances there should suddenly be eharp shutdowns . . .in, say. three major areas of our economy, trouble then really could ensue. . . "It should be said quickly that there is nothing of this sort that appears on the horizon at present.” Billy Graham Film At Berne Jan. 24 "London Crusade”, an hour long documentary of the three-mouth campaign held by Evangelist Billy Graham, will be shown at a countywide Youth for Chriat rally Monday evening, Jan. 24, at the First Mennonite church at Berne at 7:20 p.m. Filmed entirely in England, “London Crusade” is Britain's own story of the campaign. Narrated by the bishop of Barking, one of the most respected leaden of the Anglican church, the saga is a complete, gripping portrayal of the events as they transpired. Beginning with scenes of the Grahams' arrival at Waterloo station, the film moves on to the opening night at Harringay Arena. It then covers the entire series of history making services, concluding with the great White City and Wembly Stadium meetings, where a total of 200,000 gathered for the closing rallies of the crusade. An interesting program ia planned, to which the public is invited. Great Salt Lake City was renamed Salt Lake City in 186 S.

DavaUaaal RaaStagi John S:IS-M The Son of God Lesson for January 16, 1956 THE churches composing the World Council have set up one theological condition for membership. and in spite of efforts to induce them to change, they have stuck to it No church can be admitted that does not acknowledge
Jesus Christ "as | God and Savior.” Now when Jesus is called God outright the church is saying something the Bible rarely says. Furthermore, it ean be confusing to say this. The church universal
has never meant to say that Jesus is all the God there is, or that Jesua ia identical with God. For God exists in three persons (as the church expresses it), and Christ is only one person. Christ is both God and man. but God is not man at all. And yet the church universal, and churches in particular, cling to the statement “Jesus is God.” partly because they would rather make the mistake of saying too much than too little about Chriat. and partly because this does express their real faith. Ermsl With God Laying all technical theology aside, and speaking as plainly as possible, things can be said about Christ, which the Bible teaches, and which the church believes, and which put together come out where the church stands—on the deity of Christ First Jesus himself called himself regularly the “Son of God.” and even his‘enemies could see that that meant placing himself on an equality with God. Paul tn the New Testament speaks of Christ as the “image of the invisible God;” Hebrews says he “bears the very stamp of God's nature.” As was 1 said here last week, Christ is our ! true picture of God, our best way I of knowing what God is like. Now 1 if Christ is "equal with God” we should expect the chureh to worship him—and so it does. Prayers are offered to him directly as well as to the Father in his name. The Doxology sings, “Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost,” and many other hymns and songs are actually prayers to Christ. (“Jesus Savior, Pilot Me;” “Rook of Ages,” “More love to Thee, O Christ,” “Make me a captive. Lord,” “Fairest Lord Jesus.”— and any reader can think of many more.) The Mind of God Second, Jesus himself spoke of his words as being not his own but those of the Father who sent him. This was a vivid way of saying that he knew what was in God’s mind, he knew God’s attitudes and intentions, bow God felt and what he planned to do. Now it is true that there had been prophets who spoke by inspiration and who brought the Word of God to the people. But a famous living theologian has put the difference between the prophets and Jesus this way: The Word of God came through the prophets—but Jesus Christ was the Word. The prophets were at one remove from God, and in Christ there is not even "one remove” from the Highest. The Sermon on the Mount gives perhaps the most striking illustration of this. Often in that sermon you find the words. “Ye have heard that it was said” (and here Jesus quotes some passage from the Old Testament) “but I say unto you’,* (and here Jesus gives a teaching which may be radically different from the Old Testament). In short Jesus set up his own teaching as actually above the accepted "Word of God." What greater claim—7. The Authority es Christ The practical question is: How seriously do Christians take this doctrine of the Deity of Christi The churches officially believe it; and yet church members act as if Jesus bad never spoken, or ss if his opinion were only one man’s opinion, worth no more than the average. Christians might well remember Jesua' own question: “Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” It ia one thing to sing hymns to Christ on Sundays, another and harder thing to follow his teachings on weekdays. The test of whether a person really believes in the deity of our Lord is not in what he says about it but in what he does about it We might even risk this proposition: A person who shrinks back from saying “Jesus is God” and yet believes that to any case Jesus is always right, comes nearer to truly so I would be pure, for there are those who earn.—Whiter. Sincerity and truth gre the basis of every virtue.

* * Go To Church By Mrs. J. R. Meadows Nicodemus had sneaked in to see Jesus after the lights were OUt. * — Like a lot of fellows today, he was ashamed of the best desires that he bad eVer had. Who baa not, at some time in his life, had a desire for a better life? , It is possible for every man to live a life in harmony with God’s will for him. Don't be ashamed of your desire to know more about that kind of life. Every man should have a desire for spiritual things. Some are too weak to live according to their convictions. Set yourself to find out how to live the Christian life and having found the , way, live the life. The church will help you. Attend the church of your choice next Sunday.
