U. S. PLANES (Con* tn usd from Pag« One) putting reconnaissance planes over the area the same as action on its apimaal for military aid against the revolutionaries. The nation petitioned the U. S. and other hemispheric colleagues to stop what it termed “a slaughter of women and children” by foreign bombers which, It said, have launched attacks on open cities. Costa Rican foreign minister Mario Esquivel told the OAS from San, Jose that seven cities have been bombed and strafed. He said that the attacking rebel forces have increased to about 800 men. In Washington, Costa Rican for eign minister Fernamfo Fournier quoted eyewitnesses as saying the alleged bombers were Venezuelan. However. Venezuelan ambassador Tito Guitierrez said he knew nothing of the report and denied that the planes could have come from his country.

National leaders met to discuss problems connected with toll roads, federal aid to highways, proposals for a special highway financing agency and federal and state gas tax changes. - NO NEW REPORT Krom Pane O»e> ing from Nicaragua. Costa Rica said the planes which carried out the attacks were Venezuelan. Two of the aircraft were identified as a PP-51 fighter and an AT-6 trainer. San Jose authorities confirmed late Wednesday night that two bombs were dropped on the town of Liberia, northwest of the'capital near the Pacific coast. Slight material damage was reported. The town of Canas, near Liberia, was strafed, apparently by the some plane. One small girl was killed. Unofficial reports said the plane had been shot down, but no wreck-, age had been found. — Question Os Sewer Overflow Solved The question of why the sewer at Winchester and Studebaker near the old south ward school always overflows was solved today by Clyde Johnson of the city street department. In digging up sections of.thd sewer, it was discovered that the pipes used to drain into an open ditich at the old stone arch there. When the archway was filled in and houses were built, the sewer was left to drain, but it was not connected to any sewer draining into the river, so it has just continued to overflow into the street and yards. Steel Girders For Bridges Arrive Work on U. S. highway 27 between the Monmouth road and Fort Wayne will start just as soon as spring weather arrives, it was learned today. It is expected that it will take at least 200 working days for .the construction of bridges and widening of the highway, during- which period traffic will be routed to Fort Wayne over the old Winchester road. The lost Construction company of Decatur has the contract for building the new bridges in the Adams county section of the work. —
