Concordia, C. C Ta£e Tourney Openers From Elmhurst And Decatur
Fort Wayne's two parochial schools, Concordia and Central Catholic, will battle for the holiday tourney championship tonight, following decisive victories scored in Tuesday night’s openers over Elmhurst and the Decatur YelloW Jackets, respectively. ;; Concordia defeated Elmhurst, 67-49, in the opener, and Central Catholic downed the Decatur Yellow Jackets, 63-40, in the nightcap. The Yellow Jackets and Elmhurst will meet in the qonsolation tilt at 7 O'clock tonight at the Fort Wayne North Side gym, with Concordia and C. C. clashing at 8:15. The Yellow Jackets led only once In their clash with the Irish, at 6-4 early in the game on Fred McDougal's set shot. C. C. pulled away to a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Jackets pulled within four at 21-17,, in the second period, but; the Irish hit four more points to I hold a 25-17 advantage at the half. The third period spelled defeat for the Jackets, as C. C. tallied 23 points while holding Decatur to' only seven to give the Irish a 38 24 bulge entering the final quarter. The Jackets outscored C. C. in the final period. 16-15. Trabert And Seixas Lose Final Matches /SYDNEY (INS) — America’s Dayis Cup cha'mps Tony Trabert and Vic Seixas loosened the pressure on tjieir Australian foes today and dropped the final two singles matches. ( * The U. S. regained the big silver bowl Tuesday when the American pair defeated Lew Hoad and Ken Rosewall in the doubles match of the challenge round. The final score was'LL S. 4 and Australia 2. Trabert, playing with blisters on his racquet hand, lost to Rosewall in three tight sets 9-7, 7-5, 6-3. In the final match of the challenge round. Rex Hartwig of Australia defeated American champion Vic Seixas, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.
