Commodores RTdZZop Jetferson, 77 To 34, To Snap Losing Skein
The Decatur Commodores blasted their six-game lasing streak with a resounding thump Tuesday night, wollqping the Jefferson Warriors, 77-34, at the Berne high school gyjfl. it was the second victory of the season for the Commodores, as compared to seven setbacks, and their first triumph since Nov. 16, wWn they defeated Monroeville. The Warriors made a real battle of the game for the first quarter, which saw the quintets tied at 15-15. Paced by Joe Wilder’s four field goals, while holding Jefferson to only eight points, the Commodores
then raced into a 33-23 lead at the main intermission. Jefferson wm limited to jast two points, a field goal by Reef, iij the entire third quarter, while Ithe Commodores poured in 21 points to give the Decatur Catholic lads an overwhelming 54-26 bulge at the end of the period. The Commodores again outscored Jefferson in the final quarter, 21-9/ ' Eight of the 11 Commodores Coach Dave Terveer sent into the fray contributed to the adoring column, Wilder leading the way with 28 points. Walt Mowery, with 14, and Ron Meyer, with 12, were also in double figures. No Warrior was able to reach double digits, Bollenbacher leading his team with eight points. The Commodores will now enjoy a holiday lull, with their next actiorf Tuesday, Jan. 4, against the Gorillas at Hartford. Next home game for the Commodores will be Friday, Jan. 7, with the Gaels from St. Mary s of Anderson. Jedferson will entertain Poling at the Geneva gym next Tuesday night. Commodores __ FG FT TP R. Hoagland led at the first quarter, 14-13, and at the half, 32-26, but the Spartans took over in the third period for a 39-37 margin. Beerman, Hoagland forward, led all scorers with 32 points, while Leon Byer tallied 25 for Pleasant Mills despite a broken toe suffered last week. The Sparuns’ next action will be Jan. .7, when they entertain the Geneva Cardinals at Pleasant Mills. Geneva Snaps Beme Victory String, 67-59 The Geneva Cardinals engineered an abrupt stop to the eightgame winning streak of the Berne Bears Tuesday night, the Cardinals carrying away a 67-58 vletory on the Geneva floor. It was a rugged battle all the way. Berne held a 30-16 advantage at the first quarter, but Geneva came back for a 38-35 advantage at the half. The Bears again held the leadWfter three quartet's, 4947, but the Cardinals rallied in the final period, for the victory. Jerry Tester’s 32 points led Geneva to its triumph, while Tom Shrsam tailed 16 for Berne. Both teams will now be idle until after the holidays, Geneva playing at Monmouth Jan. 4 and at Pleasant Mills Jan. 7, while Berne will be home Jan.-7 against Warren and Jan, 8 against Leo. Geneva ..
