By DOROTHY REED Central Press Correspondent RACINE, Wle.—lf you're worried about ail the Christmas cards you have to address this year, remember Mrs. Mary Christmas of Racine. Mrs. Christmas, because of her name, addresses over 4,500 cards by hand every Yuletide season—and she doesn’t even know most of the recipients! She began sending out cards in quantity several years ago when she discovered that some shut-ins were cheered by her name. Then the ’ word got around; Mrs. Christmas' list grew; and now she has to start i early in May in order to finish her cards by December. “I enjoy the work usually.” she says. "However, sometimes when it 1 gets too much for me, I wonder why a girl called plain Mary Myrtle Eldred had to marry Sam Christmas, and get a name that just asks to be signed over and over again every Dec. 25.” g3<Jhfistmas £ A Scrapbook Compiled by Clark Kinnaird ® w A CENTURY ago, a question of a king started a S 5 x*. search for the name of the anonymous originators If of the beloved song, Silent Night. The music had been published without credit to the gL men who had written the words and music. Joseph Mohr, the fit parish priest at Oberdorf, Austria, on Christmas eve, Q Sr 1818. They had been set to music by the church’s or- O W gantst, Franz Gguber, and sung for the first Um* in the JR fig church the next day. Department of Agriculture, which says this is the way to do it: Boil whole sweet potatoes for 30 minutes, rinse in cold water, peel and slice paper-thin. Deeptry the chips at 300 degrees in deep fat until the edges begin to brown.
