HISTORICAL CLUB IN CHRISTMAS PARTY Mrs. W. P. Robinson was hostess to the Historical club Christinas party and luncheon Wednesday. A turkey dinner was served at the noon hour to 21 members. The tables were laid with the holiday appointments and favors were home-made colored candy wreaths. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. Maud Hower, Mrs. Lydia Worthman, Mrs. Florence Green, Mrs. Gaylie Bittner and Mrs. Clara Passwater. A program was held in the afternoon with Mrs. Passwater in charge. Christmas stories were given by Mrs. Worthman, Mrs. Homer Lower, Mrs. Roy Price and Mrs. Passwmer. The revealing of capsule friends followed with each presenting her capsule-friend with a gift. One new member, Mrs. James Borders, was welcomed in the club. The next meeting will be held January 5 with Mrs. .Homer Lower. CHURCH CIRCLE HOLM CHRISTMAS PARTY The-Ruth and Noami circle of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church held a Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Charles Beineke with a potluck dinner and gift exchange. Mrs. Ed Borne presented the topic of “The Spirit of Christmas.” Officers for the coming year are Mrs. Harry Frauhiger, chairman; Mrs. Tony Meyers, vice-chairman; Mrs. John Belneke, secretarytreasurer; Mrs. Charles Meyers, cards and flowers. Hostesses for the day were Mrs. Fay Baker, Mrs. Albert Harlow, Mrs. Charles Meyers, and Mrs. Charles Belneke. STUDY CLUB HOLDS CHRISTMAS PARTY The officers of the St. Dominic study club entertained the members with a Christmas dinner party at the home of Mrs. Harold Engle Tuesday evening. The guests were seated at small tables laid with green linens and centered with Chirl&tm&B| candle a. The rooms were decorated in keeping with the, holiday season. Following the dinner, Mrs. Herman Meyers read a Christmas story and the group listened to Bishop Sheen’s talk on, "The Meaning of Christmas.” A gift exchange was held and games were played with prizes won by Mrs. Helen Keller, Mrs. Maty Costello, and Mrs. Ruth Keller. A gift was given to Mrs. Jolly Kelley, who was a guest of the club. The hostess was assisted in serving refreshments by Mrs. Harmon Glllig and Mrs. Herman Heimann. TOWN COUNTRY CLUB IN RECENT MEETING The Town and Country home demonstration club met recently at the home of Mrs. Doyle Collier for their Christmas party. A sjjort business meeting was held, conducted by Mrs. William Meyers, and the members repeated the club collect and prayer. The new president. Mrs. Leo iTeepie, announced the appointment of Mrs. Homer Reace as publicity chairman, Mrs. Charles Ketter, safety arid health chairman, and Mrs. Elmo Miller, song leader. The January meeting will be at (he home of Mrs. I<eo Temple. MISS BETTY M. ROE IS BRIDE OF ROGER RIPLEY Miss Betty M. Roe. daughter of Mr. and ‘Mrs. Leo Roe of Decatur, was recently married to Roger D. Ripley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Ripley of Monroe. The double-ring ceremony took place in the borne of the officiating minister, the Rev. J. Carl Williams. The bride chose a street length lilac dress with a fitted bodice and a white carnation corsage. She wore a matching hat trimmed in flowers and a veil. Miss Jane Harvey attended the bride as maid of honor. She chose a blue dress with a matching hat and she w-ore pink carnations. The bride’s mother wore a brown dress with a corsage of yellow mums. Mrs. Ripley wore a charcoal dress and also yellow mums. James Wilson served as best man. A reception was held following the ceremony in the bride’s home, with CO guests present. Mrs. Ripley is a student at Monmouth high school and the bridegroom is a graduate of Pleasant Mills high school and is engaged in farming. The couple is living at present, with the bride's parents. CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR SORORITY CHAPTERS •Mrs. Francis Elsworth was hostess recently at a Christmas party for Delta Lambda and Xi Alpha XI chapters of Beta Sigma Phi. Decorations In keeping with the season were used. Canasta was played with prizes awarded to the winners. A gift exchange was held. The hostess was assisted by Mrs. James Elberson, Mrs. Martin Wieland,;- and Mrs. Raymond Snyder in serving refreshments. MARCELLA ROTH IS ENGAGED TO WED Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Roth of Decatur announced the engagement of their daughter, Marcella Roth, to Richard Rambo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Rambo, also of Decatur. Miss Roth Is a graduate of Decatur high school and employed at the Schafer company. Her fiance is a graduate of Decatur high school and is employed with Dunbar Furniture company in Berne. No date has been set for the wedding, j DEMONSTRATION CLUB IN CHRISTMAS PARTY The Root Township home demonstration club met recently for their Christmas party at the Reformed church. The meeting was opened with the .creed, and Christmas carols were sung. A carry-ln dinner was enjoyed at noon with Mrs. Christene Bohnke offering, prayer. Mrs. Jessie Singleton read the "Christmas Story'/’ and Mrs. Smith gave a book review called “Home for Christmas.” A gift exchange was held and capsule friends were revealed. The new officers were installed by Mrs. Theron Fenstermaker and they are as follows: president, Mrs. Lee Fleming; vice-president. Mis. Kenneth Runyon; secretary, Mrs. Royal Friend; treasurer, Mrs. Aszra Kaehr; press reporter, Mrs. Lloyd Bowman; leaders. Mrs. Norbert Auman and Mrs. Adolph Weidler. and song leader, Mrs,. Harry Stults. SURPRISE BIRTHDAY r PARTY LAST NIGHT The members of the Zion Walther League of Friedhelni pleasantly , surprised Roger Koenemkn last evening at the home of his parents, Mr. and Arthur Koeneman of Preble township to celebrate his nineteenth birthday. The Jolly Housewives home demonstration club met recently at the home of Mrs. Ben' McCollough for a Christmas party, potluck dinner, and gift exchange. The new officers were installed by Mrs. Theron Fenstermaker. A business meeting was held in the afternoon with 40 members answering to the roll call. The V. F. W. ladles auxiliary business meeting will be held Monday at 8 o’clock at the V. F. W. home. Members are to bring a gift for the children at the V. F. W. home in Eaton Rapids. Mich. Initiation will be held at the regular stated meeting of the Order of the Eastern Star in the Masonic hail at 7:30 o’clock Thursday. The Tri Kappa sorority will have a Christmas dinner Tuesday evening at 6:15 o’clock in the Legion home. Members are asked to bring their money for tickets. A potluck supper and social party will be held at the C. L. of C. hall Tuesday ' evening at 6:30 o’clock. Meat and rolls will be furnished by the committee. No gift exchange will be held. A Christmas candle light service will be given by the adult department of the Salem E. and <Ri. Church of near Magley. Sunday evening, at 7:30 o’clock, it will show "The Promise of Light” “The Gift of Light,” and “Light ' For the World.” Assisting will be ■ a mixed chorus and several vocal solos. The will of the late Daniel Burkett has been admitted to probate in the Wells circuit court. Included in the bequests in one for 3500 to Verda Stonerook. The estate is valued at about 315,000. Mary H. Noll, of Decatur, was granted a divorce froin Richard Noll in Wells circuit court and alimony for 31.200 provided she signs the deed tor property in Decatur. The defendant is ordered to pay 312.50 per week for support of the child. The defendant is entitled to custody of the child during alternate weeks of the summer months. Volunteer Firemen Select Officers ■ ' \ ' * . ■ ■ , Cedric Fisher, Decatur fore chief, has announced new officers of the volunteer fire department who were elected at a meeting Wednesday evening. George Rentz was' elected assistant chief. Eugene Beam will serve as treasurer and Joe Mcßride will be, secretary. They .will serve in these offices during 19Gu.
