Watch the icy roads, they are dangerous. Cars skid and are wrecked and passengers are injured as they step out of machines. Health Is Safeguarded With New Medications -
|y HUMAN N- iUNWSIN, BJ. 7 MEDICAL science makes great strides each month in developing new medications and treatments to protect the health of you and your children. Among the latest advances are: Hydrocortisone: a modification of the drug cortisone, which has been used so effectively in the treatment of arthritis, and many other disorders. In helping bring relief to arthritis victims, it can be injected directly Into painful joints and also into connective tissues. Low Back Pain It has also helped bring relief of low back pain due to flbrositls, which is an inflammation of the connective tissues, such as the ligaments. It is useful In eye disorders. Berpasil: a preparation derived from a plant known as Rauwolfia serpentina. It is used to control hypertension and nervous pressure in general. It has been helpful In calming and soothing patients under strain. Excellent results have been obtained wfoen given to psychotic persons in a state of anxiety. Antihistamine Relative Chlorpromazine: A drug related chemically to the antihistamines. After an hour and a h al f he returned her and handed her the gun saying he didn't want to hurt her or any one else. A short time later he •" turned h|mself into the police. The newspaper no doubt got a scoop made right in the office. —* q In line with S-D day, local motorists are reminded that any emergency vehicle, with siren sounding, has the right-of-way. Whether it is a fire truck, police car or ambulance, when you are in your own automobile and hear a siren, the law provides that you drive as close to the curbing ag is possible and 4 #a|t until the emergency vehicles have passed. The law is the same in Decatur as it is in any other city and it fa quite frequently violated, because perfaaps-the driver does notrealise tharhe is taking a serious gamble, both as an offense against his property and the statute. e o oh—— Often times we are inclined to praise the community work and effort of qorne man. Perhaps, top often, we forget that women also play a major part in building our great city. The women make possible a Christian home and they look after the needs apd wants of a family. Decatur has lost just such a community builder. Friends today paid a final earthly tribute to Elizabeth Emma Smith who for many years has divided her life between her Church, and her family. Quietly. Mrs. Smith bp|lt in her Home the Christian atmosphere. which could nqt be limited to the walls of a house, but had affect throughout Dpcatur. What better worldly reward could she reap thap thp fine children she has rearpd tq carry on in home, in business and in Church in her memory.

While it acts as a sedative, it does not confuse or (jepraas mental processes. Answer: Excessive sweating of the palms may be an indication of some general disorder, such as an infection or perhaps even difficulty with the thyroid gland. In many cases, it is a localized cqpdition, the cause for which cannot be determined. There is no treatment which is of .any particular value. Os course, a careful search should be made for the cause, so that it cgn be eliminated just as soon as it is discovered.

Oi course 1 want you to be certain, and 1 want you to be happy—that is the most important thing." ••Thank you for sa yI n g that, Walt." She was glad he had. It proved that Walt was not entirely selfish and that fundamentally ms standards were sound. Yet she bad always known that. Otherwise, she could not nave admired mm so much—believed herself in love with nim. Walt started the car and they drove on. He tried to put aside that professional manner of ms. He even managed to be almost gay. They talked of other things —Julius’s progress and Walt's schedule for the child's treatments which would start as soon as the boy was dismissed from the hospital. He said be was determined that the boy not only should walk but that he should walk without any sign ot a limp. Cynthia recalled what she had told Norman — that she feared Julius might never be able to run and p|ay like other children, unless a miracle could take place. And Norman had said that he hoped her doctor would prove to be that miracle man. > Now it began to look as though Walt might well be. He had been so encouraged after the examination he nad made today that be seemed confident the little boy's leg and hip would one day be perfect again. Cynthia was as interested as Walt was tn their tour and inspection ot the health center. The doctor made a number ot notes and asked a great many questions, even about costs and upkeep. And Cynthia, smiling to herself, decided that she bad been right— Walt, in accepting Elizabeth’s ideas, had made them his own. On their way home they stopped at a roadside restaurant tor dinner. It turned qut to be a pleasan; spot; excellent food, a restful and yes, almost romantic atmosphere, with even a .dance orchesTo her surprise, Walt asked if she would like to dance. "1 didn’t suppose you ever did anything so frivolous!” Her laughing eyes teased him, as his arm circled tier slender waist. “I used to be quite a dancer when 1 was tn college," the young doctor returned, his own eyes twinkling. “You should have seen me!” They danced together nicely, although be was not quite so good a partner a* Norman- But that

doesn’t matter, she told herself when the music stopped and they returned to their table. You don’t choose your life partner because be’s a good dancer. She almost laughed out loud, remembering what Roz had said about its being a big mistake if she and Norman did not form a lifetime partnership. This made her remember one more issue it would be well to clear up now, since this had been a day for clearing up things. She told Walt that as the benefit was to be the following Friday evening, Mrs. Brandt was having a tew people at Pleasantrldge to watch it over television. "Elizabeth nas asked me to come," she added. "And 1 believe she intends to invite you, Walt.” She wanted nim to know that she intended to continue her friendship witn the Brandts. That scowl started to creep back in place, but the young doctor managed to banish it. ”1 shouldn't take time for such social events," he said, but he managed a smile. “However, if you want me to accept the invitation, 1 will, Cynthia.” ■ , Cynthia smiled, too. She did want him to accept. She wanted him to show the Brandts that he could be friendly and nice, not the boor he bad been that other time at Pleasantrldge. Nevertheless, Cynthia felt certain that Elizabeth Brandt knew character well enough to understand that Walt was actually a fine person. Elizabeth would approve of his putting his work before anything else, She would understand that when Walt acted brusque, or discourteous, tt was only a defense to cover up more vulnerable qualities. 1 ‘ She was in for a third surprise when Walt took her to her door, after a pleasant drive back. For Wilt did kiss Cynthia goodnight. It was not a short, fierce kiss. It was quite a long one. It began as almost a light and tender kiss, but it ended up with enough ardor to convince the young nurse quite thoroughly that this young doctor could be entirely unprofessional upon occasion—altogether an average young man with plenty of red corpuscles. Yet she still was not sure about her own toolings. For Walt’s goodnight kiss had not swept her of! her tceL Maybe, she told hcrsell ruefully, she expected too much of this thing called love. Maybe it was only a fancy. It had not proved real in Nora's case. It might be just something people dreamed up—not real, after all. (To Be Continued)
