For example, the time-sav-ing Fast-Hitch—which many people saw in operation on the square dancing tractors--— is now available for all tractoM in the Farmall line., With Fast-Hitch, you just back up to the implement, let it lock in position automatically, and you are ready to go. Tubeless Tire Now Standard On Autos Glare-Proof Mirror Also New Feature DETROIT, (INS) — Two new features designed to increase the pleasure and safety ot automobile driving got their share of notice as the industry rolled out its 1955 models. ■ One is the tubeless tire, standard equipment on all the new lines, and the other a glare-proof rear view mirror. Blowouts — probably the most frequent mechanical failures in an automobile — are virtually' eliminated by the tubeless tire. In the great majority of blowouts it has been the failure of thmtube rather than the tire itself, 90 by doing Sway with the tube most of the danger is removed. The tubeless tire was made, possible by the development of rubber compounds which are “airproof." By applying these compounds as an inner-liner the manufacturers eliminated the tube which would explode like a balloon when pierced by a nail or any other sharp object. Nails Held Nails get into the tubeless tires, but the tough inner-lining holds them fast and don’t allow any air to escape. In exhaustive tests, tubeless tires were driven many thousands of miles with nails in them and they did not lose a pound of air. High speeds have the tendency to throw the nails out of tires, but even then the tire only develops a slow leak and give the motorist ample warning. Another good feature of the tubelesg tire is that they don’t ,have-- to be taken off the wheels for repairs. A}l the motorist needs to do is to find the leak and repair it With a rubber plug and cement which comes in a special kit furnished by the manufacturer. The hgw glare-proof rear-view tiiiiTOr will not be original equipment on any car this coming season but i-an be purchased gs-An a c c tssory. — It uses the principle of the prism, effected both by the shape of the mirror itself and by three ihemiial coatings, to split the light striking the mirror from behind the car. Enough of this light is reflected to give the driver a clear view of what is ’ behind him,., but not enough to hinder his vision. - -A. - ■
