Competition Grows For Wheat Market Notion's Surplus Expected To Grow WASHINGTON (INS) — One of the major questions before U. S. marketing specialists today is what can be done U> meet increasing competition for the world wheat market. Top officials readily admit that this country will be lucky to export 250 million bushels tn the marketing year, which ends next June 30. Actually, they do net expect exports to be nruek greater than the 210 million bushels shipped out during the 1953-54 season. Couple this with the estimate that about 8«0 million bushels wilt be used for food, feed and seed at home and it is obvions t*at there will be another addition to the carry-ever-so other words, an increased surplus — at the end of the marketing year. Although wheat acreage was sharply reduced, the 1954 crop still reached 959 Milion baskets. Even supposing that exports amount to 250 minion bushels, the addition to carry-over stocks wool* be nearly 50 million. As one means of solving thio problem, the agriculture department has sent marketing specialists into a number of areas around the globe. Primarily, their job is two-fold: to advise foreign customers on bow to make the best use of the kind of wheat the U. S. produces, and to inform producers and grain handlers at home about the special needs of millers and bakers abroad. One ot the goals is to make the price Os American wheat so attractive that farmers in a number of foreign countries can be induced to shift to other crops which they can produce more economically. In Switzerland, for example, this year's support price for wheat is 91.18 per bushel. Io every Western European country except The Netherlands supports are well above the $2.24 floor in the U. S. Report Coats Stolen From Locked Locker Coats belonging to Jack Lawson an<f Luther Schrock were taken from a locked locker on the main floor of the Decatur Mgli school aailding -while the boys were attending a dance after the basketball zame last night. The two coats, a ight tan trench coat and a tan ■iweede jacket, were removed Ater the locker was opened, apparently by a master key, and then relocked.
