I Comments Jh I Oh Creamed comments on the Sunday school lesson, Yearning for the Living God, Psalm 42: VS; 84: 4,5; 102:25-27, for Sunday, December 12. tn this lesson is presented the universal yearning for God and the acclaim that God can satisfy every longing of the soul. V.l. "As the heart panteth after the water brook, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.” tn this simile is the picture of a young female deer almost dying because of thirst. Think of a soul dying without God. 1 V. 2. “My soil thirsteth for God. for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God.” The IMstaßM longed td coon before God in his sanctuary, where he dwelt in a special sense. You can Judge character by vrfiat one’ wants. It is a reflection on one who does not cgre to go to chnrch. T.S. "My tears hate been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me. Where is thy God?" The psalmist felt ao keenly his inability to worship in the temple that he was moved to tears. Possibly the enemies taunted him and discounted God. A true child of God Is saddened when others speak lightly of God. V. 4. “When 1 remember these times, 1 pour out my soul In me; for 1 had gone with tire multitude, 1 went with them to the house of God, with th* vofce of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holiday.” The deprivations and tauntings caused the rising of sacred memories, especially those great feast days in the temple where many united in the worship Os God in praise and thanksgiving. The memdry of past Christian experience* in worship is an anchor of the soul. V.S. "Why art thou cast down, O my soul; and why art thou diequieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.” la thts meditation there is revealed self-oonsciowness. of having the . power of conviction and of the power t<J choose. Tfue faith in God bring* hope with assurances of again experiencing the Joy of holy communion with God. Here is the source of a healthy optmi- . - . . .. t IDtooisaion on I iQueMions SvSl J§Jtessc«| D)*ew**ion questions os the Sunday school lesson, Yearning for the Living God. for Sunday, December 12. 1. What are th* evidences that there 1* a yearning for God in every soul? 2. How explain that alt, good and bad, are confronted with disappointments and trials? 3. How may on* get victory in .trials and temptation? 4. Why is church attendance helpful? 5. How. should one regard God? CLERICUS SAYS: Clericus says: “At heart every man yearns for God. He may not always be able to interpret or even be conscious of the yearning. But It is there nevertheless, and if I ane will search for it, be will sere-1 ly find it.”

V. 6. "O my God, my soul is cast down within me; therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonite* from the bill Mi»*r.” Here I* portrayed David fleeing for his life, being hid beyond the Jordan river. Safety is found in the words, "1 remember,” if one has enjoyed fellowship freely in the worship of God with others. V.7. “Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts; all thy waves and billows have gone over use.” The writer could hear the profound rippling of waters which he can imagine as portraying the misfortune that has come to kim. The writer te sensible in that he faces facts of disappointments and misfortunes. V.S. “Yet the Lord will command bis loving kindles* in the daytime and tn the night his song shall be wfth me and my prayer unto the. God of my life.” Regardless of misfortune, the writer claims the goodness in God who will surely express loving kindness, and therefore all will be well. V. 4. "Blessed are they that dwell in thy house; they will still be praising thee.” The service in the house of God becomes a blessing to the sou). There is untold help in the united praises to God. V.S. “Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.” He who trusts God receives strength from him. This strength is needed in meeting the daily trials and temptation* V.2S. "Os old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth; and the he*vend are the work of thin* hands, One finds faith increased when God is seen as the Great Creator. V.2S. “They shall perish but thou Shalt endure; yea, all of them shall wax old as a garment; as a vests re shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed.” Thoagh the star* may have a long existence, there is coming a day when they shall perish but not so with God for he is everlasting. V. 27. "But thou art the same, and they years shall hav* no end." Here is expressed that important truth that God abides.. His word abide*. And those committed to his will and care will abide. —Based on copyrighted outlines produced by the Division of Christian Education, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A., and used by permission.
