Purdue Develops Electrical Device Increase Accuracy Os Animal Grading LAFAYETTE, Ind., (INS) — Purdue has developed an electrical device its inventors claim will measure the thickness of Jat and lean in live meat animals and in carcasses. Primary purpose of the new machine will be to increase the accuracy of live animal grading and speed up the breeding of meattype hogs. Purdue animal husbandry department head. Prof. Claude Harper, said: “It is a new tool that will mean as much in the field of animal husbandry as the Babcock test did to the dairymen.” Swine breeders and packers who viewed the instrument while it was in the e,xperiinental stage have been similarly enthusiastic about its future importance to the industry. % Formal announcement will be made at the American society of animal production in Chicago, Nov. 26. An electrode is inserted beneath the skin of the animal. When the electrode contacts muscle, an electrical meter shows great increase in electrical conductivity. Medicine Shelf By International News Service Bathroom medicine cabinets are handier, but you'd be better off storaging drugs in Some other room. A closet shelf Is ideal for the purpose. Chemists of the Arner Co., pharmaceutical manufacturers of Buffalo, N. Y., point out steamy bathrooms may rob medicines of some of their effectiveness. Steam is moisture, and moisture in any form is a potent solvent. Even tightly capped bottles are vulnerable. Heat and light also steal from strength. . The darker, cooler and drier confines of the closet therefore help maintain drug stability.
