St. Joe, Freshmen Winners Thursday st. Joe Junior high and the Commodore freshmen won a double header from Adams Central, teams Thursday afternoon at the Catholic school gym. St. Joe edged Adams Central junior high, 32-30, in a double overtime battle. Adams Central led at the first quarter, 10-6, but St. Joe held a 16-14 edge at the half. Adams Central was on top at the third period, .24-22. The teams were tied at 28-28 at the end of the regular playing time and 80-30 at the first overtime session. Wilder led the winners with 15 points and Hyeriy topped Adams Central with 12. The Cpmmodore freshmen downed the Adams Central C team, 34-28. The tpams were tied at the first quarter, 7-7, but the Decatur boys led at the half, 11-9 and at the third period. 25-19. T. Junior High, Frosh Divide At Portland Decatur Junior high and freshman teams divided honors in a twin bill at Portland Thursday afternoon. Junior high Whipped Portland 55-24. leading at the quarters, 102, 28-8 and 38-13. Shraluka led Decatur with 19 points, and Pyle topped Portland with 11. The Portland freshmen whipped the Decatur freshmen, 51-23. Elmore was outstanding for the winners with 31 points. ,i while Hutker was high for Decatur with 12. Supervisor Meets With Carrier Boys The 27 Daily Democrat carrier boys met with their new supervisor, Ron Robinson, Thursday night. The carriers were reminded of the approaching winter weather and cautioned to deliver the papers with more care. Avey, 27, of Bryant route twp, was fined *SO and costs and sentenced to five days in the county jail today in city court on a charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol. Avey was arrested at 4:10 p.m. Thursday by deputy sheriff Merle Affolder after a wreck involving Avey and a car driven by Jack E. Norton, 29. Geneva. Norton was going east on road 116 in Hartford township. He was unable to .avoid hitting Avey who was driving west on the wrong side of the road. About *2OO damage was caused to each vehicle. Auto Hits Train Here This Mprning A car driven by James H. Helm, of 122 South Sixteenth street, hit a Pennsylvania switch engine at the Nuttman avenue crossing at 7:35 o’clock this morning, according to police reports. Damage to the Helm vehicle was estimated at S2OO, as the entire front end was damaged. Helm disregarded the flasher signal in the fog, and when he tried to stop the car skidded 50 feet on the wet pavement. C. W. Gessner was engineer of the switch engine, and J. F. Flaherty was conductor. The automobile was traveling east on Nuttman, and-the train was moving slowly south.
