Rescue Specialists Are Oft-Decorated Air Rescue Group Much Decorated TOKYO (INS) — Today there are more than 10,000 allied airmen scattered around the globe who owe their well being to a daring group of air force rescue specialists who plucked them from the arms of death. Injury or capture in the Korean war. These are the mere handful of aviators and crewmen of the Third Air Rescue Group in the Far East, a group which claims the title of the “most decorated" airborne unit within the Far East Command. Working with alow and clumsy 'Dumbo’’ amphibians and slow helicopters, the daring men of the Third have earned, 1,396 decora-

This new method of home treatment for saving and growing thicker hair will be demonstrated in Decatur, Indiana, on Sunday ONLY, November 21. These private individual demonstrations will be held at the Rice Hotel on Sunday ONLY, November 21, 12 noon to 9p. m. OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 11. 1954 —lu an interview here today William L. Keele, internationally famous trichologist and president of the Keele Hair and Scalp Specialists, Inc., said “There are 18 different scalp disorders that cause most' men and women to lose hair. Using common sense, a person must realise no one tonic or so called cure-all could correct all the disorders," he explained. r GUARANTEED I'The Keele firm, recognizing that most people are skeptical of claims that hair can be grown on balding heads, offer a guarantee." Keele said. Once a person avails themselves to the Keele treatment his skepticism immediately disappears. To insure thia, we offer this guarantee. “K you are not completely satisfied with your hair progress at the end of 30 days your money will be returned.” HOPELESS CASES DISCOURAGED First the trichologist is quick to tell hopeless cases that they cannot be helped. But the “hopeless" cases are few. Only If s man is completely, shiny bald is he in this lost category. If there ’is fuzz, nd matter how light, thin, or colorless, the Keele treament can perform wonders. A complete, private examination is given by a trichologist to determine the condition of his scalp, and cause of his hair trouble. Cions in the three years of the Korean War for flying more than 18,000 sorties. Over 1,000 of the airmen rescued by the group were literally pluck* ed from the grasping arm* of the Communists behind enemy lines. The behind-the-lines landing and rescue has become a commonplace operation. And the rescue of pilots who have been forced Into the chilly oceans 'off Korea’s coast are so systematic and routine, that one grateful airman told his rescuers: “IT you guys get any better you’ll be catching us before we hit the water." Probably the most daring and dangerous behind the lines rescue operation involved Capt. Danny, Miller, pilot of a slow-moving, unarmed H-19 helicopter. 25 Round Trips Miller had no weapons besides a pistol but evacuated an encircled infantry back to safety. Miller did it by making more than 26-round trips over the
examination and no appointment is necessary. After the examination the person is told the required length of treatment and how much it will cost. After starting treatment, the person makes regular reports to the Keele firm in Oklahoma CRy to check the progress of the home .treatment. _ ..... To spread the opportunity of normal, healthy hair to the thousands who are desperately looking for help, independent tricbologista are visiting various cities throughout the United States to conduct examinations and start home treatment. NO CURE-ALL “We have no cure-all for slick, shiny baldness," Keele emphasizes. “If there is. fuzz, the root it still capable of creating hair and we can perform what seems to be a miracle." There is one thing Keele wants to lie certain every man and woman knows. If a recession appears at the temples or a spot begins to show up on the crown of the head, there ia something wrong and it should be given immediate attention. HAIR FOR LIFETIME “If clients follow our directions during treatment and after they finish the course, there is ho reason why they will trot have hair ail the rest of their lives," Keele said. "Our firm is definitely be hind this treatment, it all depends on the individual client's faithful observation, of a few simple rules." HOW'S YOUR HAIR? If it worries you call Trichologist Altus E. exploding battlefield in the face of enemy ground flr<? and bad weather. He kept dropping the cumbersome helicopter into the shrinkihg perimeter and succeeded in air lifting everyone of the trapped infantrymen to safety. One of the Third’s pilots has the distinction of being the only flyer, of record ever shot out of the skies by a buried land mine. The pilot, Lt Col. Ferdinand L. Savare, won the distinction when he was slowly settling his small H-5 "chopper” down near the front lines to pick up a wounded soldier. Savare was watching the ground and making a perfect approach and then found himself looking up into the eyes of an Army medic from a hospital bed. Witnesses told Savare that he was evidently settling down oh a buried Communist land mine. Before the helicopter completely settled, however, the pressure of

CHAPTER SIXTEEN CYNTHIA had been just about to lock up when she heard someone come in. She went through the utility room, past the treatment booths, to the small waiting room. For no one was there, except herself, to see who had come in. She hoped it was not another distracted parent, wanting to talk about his or her sick child. Or some child who might have had a bad fall or minor accident. For she was ready to lock up and go home. Her final conversation with Walt had left her with practically all the heart taken out of her. ' It’s that man again," Norman said. He was standing there, wearing his wide, contagious grin. And that same look was in his eyes the minute he saw her. "Hello," Cynthia said. It was not much of a greeting. But she was taken by surprise. So much so that her heart, which she had just thought she had lost, started thumping furiously. "Hello, yourself. You look even lovelier than 1 remembered.” He came forward and took both her hands in his. “Gee, 1 missed you. Did you miss me at all?" z "Well, yes, 1 guess 1 did." She had to say that in order to please him. His merry expression could change to such a woebegone one, if only- in fooling. Yet just because he liked to tease, and be gay, some of that anger began to subside; she did not teel quite so miserable. And come to think of it, she nad missed him—in away. ‘"Then it was worth my going," he said. And then, more soberly, looking around the clinic with interest, “It really was. Everything's all set." "All set?” He still liked to talk in riddles. She wondered why he bad come straight here. She should scold him for coming to the clinic. But since Walt had left, what difference did it make? “For the benefit program over TV,” Norman explained. “Reba was terribly excited about IL She's got a lot of other people, singers and dancers and comedians, excited too." "But that's marvelous!" She forgot that she no longer cared about the clinic. Wouldn’t Walt be thrilled? His dream was to come true, as she had told him it would. Only it was thanks to Norman. She must remember that. "Let s take a look-see,” Norman suggested. "Show me the Joint. 1 want to see where you hang out. And 1 want to get some idea of what is needed." “I’ll be glad to." She had forgotten that she had been so anxious to lock up. Norman had a right to see the clinic. Although, as she told him, there really was not much to see. “This is Dr. Se 11 ar s’ office, where he interviews and examines the patients. And these arc the treatment rooms - that machine over in the corner is deep diathermy, and here, In this other , corner, is our Hubbard tank. We even have an X-ray machine, al-

the downdraft from the rotating blades created enough pressure to set off the mine, which exploded, destroyed the helicopter and seriously injured the Colonel. The Air Force unit uses the “Dumbo” or SA-16, as its workhorse in water, rescue operations. The Dumbo is a high winged monoplane with two engines which would be out of place anywhere else except in the eyes of a pilot who. has been forced into the drink. An outstanding example of what this lumbering plane can do was. demonstrated one night on the Taedong river in the heart of enemy held territory during the Korean War. Capt. John J. Najarian of the Third took his' amphibian down onto the narrow river to rescue a fighter pilot floating there. A withering crossfire peppered the plane from both sides of the river all through the operation. But the SA-16 set down, pulled the pilot
though it’s not too modern a model And here is the plaster room—" “Is one other, larger room all that’s actually needed?” Norman asked. He had been attentive, keenly interested. —. “It’s the most important," Cynthia said. “Os course someday I hope the clinic will have its own pool, a good-sized one, where underwater treatments can be given. It would be so much more effective than just a Hubbard tank.” •Then you ought to have one.” “Oh, but a pool Would be terribly expensive! I mean, an. inside one, well-heated, with dressing rooms and all the other necessary equipment. And it would take more help than we have now. We would need an attendant or so and—” ■Then you ought to have them;'* Norman said again. He not only said it as though he meant it; he said it as though it were as good as accomplished. He had called Walt a miracle man, but you would think all Norman had to do was wave a wand. -—"l’m afraid that’s too big a dream," Cynthia said. Even Walt had not dared dream that one up "No dream is ever too big,” Norman said, with that look in tus eyes. They were standing in the utility room, where all the supplies were kept; dusk had crept, almost unnoticed, Into'the building. It was lavender and gray, soft and enveloping, like a. garment to keep out light and cold and unhappiness. Without knowing how it came about, Cynthia found herself in his arms. She found his mouth, demanding yet gentle, against hers; his arms held her so closely that she could not have told whether it was his heart or hers that now pounded so madly. It was quite a long, long moihent before she came back to her senses, gave herself a mental shake', and drew away from the shelter of those encircling arms. "That was an unfair advantage.” Her voice seemed tremulbus. She could not be tumbling? An embrace, a kiss from Norman, could not do all this to her. “All is fair in love—remember?” "But you said if I were Willing to be friends, you would—well, not try to sweep me off my feet.” “You can t blame me for playing.all.the chances I get, can you? That's the only way to Win." “But you promised not to rush me." She never had felt quite this feeling of being carried awaylifted up on a magic carpet, to float in the clouds. It was only because, she told herself severely, she had felt so let-down, thanks to Walt, then so keyed-up, thanks to all that Norman thought could be done for the clinic. It was like riding a roller-coaster. T wop'L Not any taster than possible." He grinned down on her. "Remember; I've been away; I’ve missed you every waking hour,
aboard and slowly took to the air and safety again. The Third Air Rescue Group also converted Superforts, named SB-295, which are equipped with huge liferafts which can be parachuted to men in the ocean below. They also have a" version of the €-.47 known as the SC-47 and a tiny liaison plane nuilt along the lines of a Cub, which is modified to carry wounded patients around and between Korea's rugged bills. The H-19 helicopter, however, is the real workhorse of the outfit and men in the organization have dubbed it the “Miracle Ship" in honor of the numerous jobs it has shown it can handle. dreamed about you every night—" "Please, Norman," she broke tn firmly, “you mustn’t talk that way.” Not here —in the clinic— • with the shadowy ghost of Walt in the background. Not now, when she still was so uncertain, of herself, of Walt—of everything. His smile broadened. “O ka y, boss. And now shall we call it a day? I’ve been away on business. You’ve been slaving all week from nine till five—or longer. Suppose we go dancing?” “Dancing?” “Why not? You do like to dance —?” “I Jove it. But I Haven't been dancing—oh, for ages!” “Then most certainly it’s high time we made up for all that lost time.” Norman was charming, and no doubt a good dancer; it would be fun to go dancing with him. And since her vacation was starting tomorrow, why shouldn’t she? Maybe it would hold some gaiety, after all, though she had no definite plana Maybeuit was just what the doctor ordered. • • • When Cynthia saw Nora coming in the door that next day, she knew that something terrible had happened. To begin with, Nora was not supposed to be off duty until three o'clock on Saturdays. It was only a little after one. And there was no doubt that Nora’s eyes were red and swollen from. crying. Cynthia was afraid that what Nora had been dreading lately had happened. Something had happened to Alan on his way home. However, to her immense relief, it was not AMn who had caused. Nora’s tears. "Little Old Mrs. Bcckcroff died,” Nora explained, taking out her handkerchief to dry her eyes as the tears sprang into them again. “She was such a dear little old lady. So patient, so kind. You can’t take care of someone like that for over three years and not feel bad.” “Os course you can’t,” Cynthia sympathized. “Go ahead and cry, if you like. I've just finished lunch. Sit down and I’ll fix something for you.” “Just a cup of black coffee,” Nora said. "And maybe a small sandwich. Honestly, I don’t feel as though 1 could cat One coinfort, though, she passed away in her sleep. I had given her her morning bath and alcohol rub, and we had chatted for a while. She always wanted to hear all about Alan. She was as excited as a girl over our romance and the fact that he’ll be home so soon now; she said she wished she could be strong enough to come to our wedding.” "She must have been a dear," Cynthia agreed. Yet she had had a long and useful life. She had peen well beloved by many, even ouLsidcrs, like Nora. And Cynthia really felt that Nora had been on that one case too long. (To Be Continued} •*;
