HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUB 18 ORGANIZED A new county home demonstration club, .the Union township Merry Matrons, was formed last night, bringing the number of clubs in the county to 21, Miss Bertha Landis, county home agent, said today. Mrs. Walter Thieme was elected president of the new club, and Mrs. Edward Gerbers was chosen vice-president. Mrs. Erwfn Fuelling will serve as secretary-treas-urer. The club will meet monthly on the third Tuesday of the month, starting in January. The December meeting will be held December 14 at the home of Mrs. Thieme, the new president. Mrs. Oscar Lehrman and Mrs. Charlotte Anderson have been named leaders for the group by the new president. Other new members include Mrs. Otto Thieme, Mrs. Wilmer Crete, and Mrs. Wilbert Thieme. Four members of the Decatur club were present at the meeting, held at Mrs. Gerbers’ home. Mrs. Bert Haley, president, and Mrs. Gladys Drake, assistant secretarytreasurer, were present, in addition to leaders Mrs. Helen Lister and Mrs. Sadie Barnett, who gave the lesson. Mrs. Theron Fenstermaker, county president of the home demonstration council, spoke on the history and purpose of home demonstration clubs. Miss Landis explained the duties of the officers, and then the president was elected. The president presided at the election of the other officers. RICHARD BOLLENBACHER IS MARRIED RECENTLY Richard K, Bollenbacher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Bollenbacher, Fort Wayne, route four, formerly oY Adams county, and Miss Grade Mae Kelly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kelly, Anderson, were united in marriage recently in a double ring ceremony at the First Church of the Nazarene in Anderson. Miss Leah Lawson served as maid of honor and Mrs. Katherine Covey was bridesmaid. Don Shambaugh of Indianapolis was best man. Ushers included William Flueckiger, William Bauman and Roy Moser, all of Berne. The couple now reside in Fort M ayne where the groom, a graduate of Pleasant Mills high school and a veteran of three years service in the armed forces, is employed by Transport Motor Express,. LADIES SHAKESPEARE CLUB MEETS TUESDAY Mrs. Robert Macklin entertained the Ladies Shakespeare club Tuesday afternoon. Following roll call and current events Mrs. Fred Smith read an interesting paper on “American Women in Music.” Mrs. John H. Heller will be hostess for the next meeting, with Mrs. G. D. Erwin as leader. PLAN FORO LUTHERAN FALL FAIR, SUPPER 'Final plans for the fall fair and supper on December 1, sponsored by the ladies of Zion Lutheran church, were made yesterday at the meeting of the project committee with the chairmen of the various bocths, Mrs. Louis Jacobs? general chairman announced today. The fair will open at noon with the serving of a lunch for the public, featuring chicken and noodles, ham sandwiches, pie and coffee. Beginning at 4:30 a cafeteria style hame and chicken dinner w-ill be served. Mrs. Ray McDougal and Mrs. Chester Kleinknight are co-chairmen. Mrs. Bob Ashbaucher will have charge of tire dinning room. - - - Assisting these chairmen in the various booths will be: Mrs.'Henry Krueckeberg. baked goods; Mrs. Theodore Witte, fancy work; Mrs. Riehard Mailand, market booth: Mrs. D. H. Callow, gift booth; Mrs. Kenneth Schnepf, candy: and Mrs. Wm. Gernand. movies. The Walther League will feature Christmas cards and wrappings, and small jewelry, in their booth. The public is invited to attend the fair for unusual gift items, and the special lunch and dinner.
RECENT BRIDE IS HONORED AT SHOWER Mrs. Riehard Gordon, a recent bride, was honored with a miscellaneous shower held Monday evening at -the home of Mrs. Paul Harden. Upon her arrival, the honored guest was presented with a corsage of red roses. ' G.aipes were played and prizes were won by Mrs. Clarence Hook, Mrs. Herald Welty and Mrs. Gordon. The prizes were then presented to the honored guest. Mrs. Carl Leihtenberger and Miss Arlene McClure were in charge of the games. The gifts were displayed on a table centered under a canopy of green and yellow streamers. The honored guest was seated in a bow trimmed chair under a green and yellow umbrella while she opened her gifts. Refreshments to 21 guests by the hostesses Mrs. Herald Welty and Mrs. Harden. TRI KAPPAS ENTERTAIN ASSOCIATE CHAPTER The Tri Kappa sorority entertained the associate of Tri Kappa Tuesday evening at a buffet dinner held at the Presbyterian church. Evening grace was offered by Mrs. Fred Smith, a chapter member, The table was decorated with cornucopia filled with various fruits. Each member and guest waea given a small bottle, of perfume as a favor. Following the dinner an interesting program was presented by Mrs. Hayes Yeager, fashion stylist for Ijazorus department store in Columbus O. Mrs. Hayes informed the group of the latest news and fashions and 'displayed different creations. Mrs. Herman Lankenau, a model for the program, modeled three different fashions. Mrs. Hayes then showed what a dramatic effect can be achieved by changing accessories with a single suit. A short business meeting was conducted by Mrs, Kenneth Runyon. Plans were completed for the forthcoming doll project. The doll to be given for .charity js a “Sweet Sue" walking doll’. The doll will be displayed ire the Gass clothing store, Jani Lyn, and the Kiddie Shop, from the week following Thanksgiving to December 18. It was announced by Mrs. Low-ell Harper that the associate chapter of Tri Kappa has donated 125 to the men tai heal th pat ients for Christmas piesents in the state mental hospital. The active chapter is also donating to this cause. The committee for the evening consisted of Mrs. Kenneth Schnepf. Mrs, Harper, Mrs., Simon Heemstra, and Mrs. John Spaulding. The next meeting will be a business meeting December 7 at the Elks home. The story book hour will be held at the public library Saturday at 10 o'clock. The St. Paul ladies aid met recently at the heme of Mrs. James Myers. The day was spent in quilting. A potluck dinner was served at noon. The business meeting was canducted by Margaret Parrish. Scripture was read by Pat Sipe, Ten members, one guest, and six children were present. The December meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Lyle Franz. i The Calvery Willing Workers will meet in the church basement Friday evening at 7:30 o'clock, with Mr. and Mrs. Harry McDerinett as Kosts. The. Monmouth P. T. A. enjoyed an educational lecture Tuesday eventing presented by Sadamond Slrindi of Bombay, India. His topic was, "Schools of My Country.” George Stults is in northern Michigan on his annual deer hunt. ‘The oounty commissioners of Wells county- are offering for sale a link-belt LS-5C dragline. Indianapolis Man Dies Tuesday Night Heart Attack Fatal To Frank Binford INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — Indianapolis lumber and oil executive Frank Lester Binford died Tuesday night of a heart attack while driving from his office to his home. The 68-year-old Greenfield, Ind,, native was president of the BurnetBinford Lumber Co., and an official of the D-A Lubricant Co., Inc. In 194 J, he formulated plans for pre-payment of income tax to enable the federal government to collect much needed money. For his part he was honored in a special ceremony at which he followed President Franklin D. Roosevelt in making pre-payments on personal income taxes. Services will be conducted Friday with burial set for Crow Hill. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Hazel Louise Binford; a son, Thomas W. Binford, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Kinford Turner, of Bronxville, N. a sister, Mrs. Florence B. McCutcheon, of Phoenix, Ariz., and six grandchildren. Cripe, the only victorious Democrat in Elkhart county's Nov. 2 election, reported today he spent $3,669 in campaign expenses.
