Does Your Daily Diet Have Enough Protein?
ly HERMAN N. BUNOESEN, M.D. WITH evefyone so dietconscious these days, I think a word about reducing diets is in order. Rather than tell you what you shouldn’t eat, I'm going to tell you what you should eat, or, at least, what the foods you eat should contain. Vital Protein Content Your reducing diet must In- . elude sufficient high-value or complete proteins. You don’t want vital body tissues being used up for protein your foods fails to supply. Meat, poultry, Ash, milk and eggs have valuable protein content l If you deplete your protein supply, you may suffer from nervousness and weakness, become easily tired and eventually break down completely. i j’ Supplementing the Diet Your diet should also contain sufficient supplies of all necessary vitamins and minerals, and your doctor might advise you to supplement your diet with additional vitamin* and minerals in

M. Grabill has just issued the annual directory of Adams county schools. The book this year is complete with a roster of all teachers in the public and parochial schools in the county; county officials; school calendar and rules and regulations of the county board of educjdipn. The booklet will be distributed to the teachers and school officials. It is the most complete book issued in many years for use of the teachers. Congratulations are due Superintendent Grabill and his staff for gathering so much information in so little time. —0 0 Citizens Expansion: — If proposed plans are approved by the directors aud the Indiana public service commission, Citi aens Telephone Co. of this city will soon acquire two additional northern Indiana telephone exchanges. Nappanee and Argos. If the consolidation is approved, and those close to the picture are of the opinion that this is merely a matter of formality. Citizens will have a valuation of more than $2,0063)00, in physical property. The iocattelephone company was one of the first independent exchanges in the world to become fully automatic. President Charles D. Ehinger has already announced that work would start immediately after acquisition of the new concerns to' make the added exchanges just as modern as the Decatur utility. Mr. Ehinger's vision and far sightedness have proved a boon to the Decatur company and there is every reason to believe that they will do the same for the added properties. While the new companies would be operated as separate units, much of the book work and purchasing would be done from a central office in Decatur. The Citizens telephone company with its faith in America aud the future should pay splendid dividends to its owners for many, many years in the future, thauks to an able President and board of directors.

Fifty grams of carbohydrates arc also essential for your dally diet to Insure against the too rapid loss of fat from the body's fatty tissues and also act as a source of energy. Don't Skip Meals Skipping meals, of course, is not sound dieting. Actually, you should learn proper eating habits while dieting, so you won’t put on that unwanted weight again after the diet has been completed. Thus, you see, dieting is serious business. If you want to lose weight, fine. But be sure you aren’t robbing your body of vital supplies while doing so. QUESTION AMP AMSWE* Mrs. M. R.: How can I get rid of scabies? W# . ware dmcMsaing wtusl we would have Friday night," Roe informed Cynthia as she came back into the living room, one corner of I which served as their dining room. “Friday night!" Cynthia almost spilled the hot coffee. Why did Roz have to pick Friday ? Still, on seoond thought, as she already had a date with Walt for that evening, it might work out for the best, too. “Yea We decided that Friditf would be the best night. That will give us all day Saturday to clean up the mess. And Nora says that Tommy goes to night school through the week." Roz took it tor granted that Friday would be satisfactory with Cynthia, so Cynthia let tt pass. "Suppose Mr. Brandt won’t come?" Nora said. That would be terrible, wnen the whole party was really on ms account. “Oh, ne'li come." Roz appeared quite oonfidenu "He told me ne hoped I'd invite him back to Uie house —remember, Cyn? He also said he wanted to meet you, Nora" “He did? How nice ol him " Nora was always pleased at any compliment. There was no rea.iun tor it, since she waa s very sweet girl ana quite pretty, out Nora sometimes suffered trora what Ren bluntly called being unable to blow her own norn. “1 leU you what," Nora came up with an idee, "I'll bake the cake, hut you c«n let Mr. Brand: think you did it." "That's generous of you," ftoz made a small gnmiee, “but l doubt u Norman would swallow that one. He know* I'm not the type. Cyn, I want you to arrange the flowers. You re good at that. 1 wish," her expression was even wryer, “1 were good tot something besides being ornamental." "Oh, but you are!" Nora was loyal. "Any girl who has her R.N has proved she's worth a lot—so Alan says." “1 got mine by the skin of my teeth,” Roz said. “I never would have gone on and taken extra courses in physical therapy, as Cyn did. And I'd never have the patience to wait on old people, ir cranky kick ones, Uke you, Nora. No. my tortc is Using pieasing-to-the-eye, and most men are more interested ui how e gal looks than in what she's like underneath the war paint," Nora waa glad that Alan was not that kind. the one that he first had seen her kneeling with a child’s head in her lap. Well, Walt certainly had seen her upon enough occasions admin* istering to children, presenting just such an appeal, and it ha/1 never made the slightest impression upon him. So maybe it would be a good idea to let Wait see her in an entirely different setting. She decided to tell him, next day when there was a slight lull in the treatment room in the clinic, that it was to be a party Friday evening, not a twosome. Again this would ahow him she was not overanxious to have dinner alone with him. Keep him guessing—old tactics, but usually good. “A party, eh?" Walt said. "Well, that will oe nice.” It he was disappointed that he was not to have ner to hunselt, he certainly did not show it. “1 hope 1 won’t have to dress up,” he added, since like most men he hated the ordeal at getting into dinner clothes. Cynthia assured him that he could come just as he was. "In this getup?” tie indicated long, enveloping white coat he had on. “I'm atr&id you'd be ashamed ot me,” ne said, a twinHie in ms eye. “I’d never stand up to your hne-teathered tnena, the oi.e who ran down the little Mancmi ooy ... 1 presume he's invited to your party too?" “Yes, ne is,“ Cynthia said She wished Wait w'ouid stop reterring to Norman as a man who nad commuted mans laughter. It the two became acquainted at the party Friday night, Walt might change tus mind about Norman. And Norman might discover that Walt did not always wear a scowl, or try. to tower above everyone else. She did not bother to correct Walt’e idea that Norman was ner particular friend. But ehe did say, "1 wouldn't be ashamed 01 you—ever, Ur. Sellars." He said, “Thank you tor saying that. Miss Doyle." Hrs eyes were still twinkling. “1, nad hoped I might nave the opportunity to discuss something with you—something very important. Bines we can t very wen have a private conversation Friday evening, why can't we have dinner together tonight? Thar u, ot course," again his mouth wili humorous, “unless you are dining again with your dark and handsome tnend.“ “His name is .Norman Brandt," Cynthia said. Wait' made Norman sound wicked and sinister. "I’d be glad to have dinner with you tonight," she added. Uhe wondered what It was be wished to discuss with her. Boitiething ot a private nature. She hoped it would be something personal, for a change. "That's fine. Don't bother to go home to change. As you just told me, you II do very well as you are. 1 thougnt we'd find a place nearby. There’s a little Italian place—would that suit you?’.' Cynthia said it would. Hhc had td smile to herselt, wondering whai Wait would say If he knew that the "little Italian place’ was where she had had dinner with Norman Brandt. (To Ba ContinuedJ
