PLEDGES ENTERTAINED ’ BY LOCAL SORORITY Delta Ijambda chapter of Beta Silgnia Phi noroility entertained their new pledges, Mrs., Arthur Burris and Mrs. Everett Hutker. at <? ilin *'r Tuesday evening at the Fairway Restaurant. Igiter in the evening, Mrs. Jerome Keller entertained in her home. Mrs. Fred Corah presided at the business meeting of the opening ritual. The chapter decided the members should make contributions to the Indiana mental health Christmas fund drive. The ritual of jewels ceremony was held for the new pledges. Mrs. Raymond Snyder gave the lesson and Mrs. Carl Stuckey used Thanksgiving as her topic. Canasta was played and later a dessert lunch was served from tables,, with the Thanksgiving theme. trinity w. s. w. s. IN RECENT MEETING The Trinity W. 8. W. S. met recently for their regular meeting at the church. Mrs. Blanche Mumma was the leader. Mrs. Sephus Jackson presented a vocal solo, with Mrs. Herald Hitchcock accompanying. Mrs. John Chambers offered prayer. Mrs. Frank Bohnke, Mrs. Nina Light, Mrs. Herman Sautbine. and Mrs. Frank Kitson gave various points on, "The Missionary Looks at his Field.” Different topics were presented by Mrs. Clarence Drake, Mrs. Harry Brown, and Mrs. Richard Shaffer. Mrs. Sephus Jackson was in charge of the business meeting.

It was decided to send the comforters made , by the society to the Philippines and the Otterbein Home for Christmas. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Herald Hitchcock, Mrs., Addie. -A n drew a, mid Mrs. Nina Light. DELTA THETA TAU PLANS GOOD FELLOWS CLUB Delta Theta Tau had their regular business meeting Tuesday evening at the Elks home. Plans were made for opening of the Good Fellows. Mrs. Cliff Brewer will be the general chairman. After the business meeting Vera Gfcimer, and Helen Mowery gave a report on Beta province held at Columbus. These girls were sent as delegates. The Beta province project for this year is a workshop for handicapped children. The next meeting will be a regular business meeting on November 23. LEGION AUXILIARY IN BUSINESS MEETING The American legion auxiliaryunit 43 held a business meeting Tuesday evening. Mrs. Frances Monahan, president, presided. Donations for the Veterans Christmas party at the Veterans hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana Boys School, Indiana Girls School. and Knightstowh home, were made. Plans for the local units’ Christmas party to be held December 14 at the Legion home with a potluck dinner-were made. The auxiliary will furnish the meat, rolls and coffee and a 50 cent gift ex-
change will followthc dinner at 0 o’clock.' ’ ' Mrs, Adrian Baker, rehabilitation chairman, asked that all gifts for the Veterans hospital be taken to the Legion home not later then December «. The reception for the department president, Mrs. Robert Hoey of New Haven, will be held°at the Legion home Post -330 at New Haven Sunday at 2 o’clock. All members ate invited and many from the auxiliary are planning to attend 'v -Mr.< James Baker was appointed the child welfare chairman. The. next social meeting will be Novembor 23. It will honor the Gold Star Mothers. Mrs. T. C. Smith and.her committee will be in charge. - NAOMI CIRCLE HAS MEETING The Naomi Circe or the' Women's Association of the Presbyterian church met Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Ray Walther. She was assisted by MrS. Dick Heller, Mrs. Lawrence Linn and Mrs. Joseph Thompson. “Make Straight the Highway,” a responsive reading praise service, was, led by Mrs. Lovell Harper. The program on Pakistan was presented b*>. Mrs. Heller, who also reported on results of the .recent church fair. . During the business session a committee was appointed to choose Christmas gifts which will be purchased for six-year-old: children at the Hillcrest orphanage. The committee includes Miss- Diane Linn, Mrs. Windsor Cravens and Mis. Royal Friend. B P W DINNER HELD WEDNESDAY A talk on investments was presented by Earl Caston of the First Stale Bank at the 6:30 p. ml dinner meeting of the Business and Professional Women’s.club Wednesday at the Methodist church.

The education and vocations committee, including Miss Marie Felber and Miss Matilda Sellemeyer, was In charge of the November meeting; Caston discussed various types of investment including common and preferred stock and corporate, government and municipal bonds. .Questions about investments from the members concluded the program. Highlight of the business session was_the initiation of several new members.- They include Miss Opal Drum, Mrs. Vera-Doty, Miss Irene Zwicit, Miss Nancy Callow, Miss Bertha Landis. Miss .Lucille Beavers, Mrs. Toey Beamer. Miss Rosemary Miller. Mrs. Frances Koors and Mrs. Harold Hott. Plans were made for a Christmas party in December at the home of Miss Joan Wemhoff. The new members were asked* to provide’ the entertainment for the meeting. The group also, made plans to make dressings for cancer patients. Miss Marie Felber who is in charge of the cancer project, asked members to bring old sheets to the January meeting. At that time members will prepare the dress-'-ings. ’ The Union Township home demonstration club will meet Wednesday at 1:30 o’clock at the home of M s. Archie Smitley. Miss Her-, tha Landis, the new home demonstration agent; will present the lesson. ' ■ i The Kuin Join Us class of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church will meet at the church Tuesday evening at 7:30 o’clock. Hostesses will be Mr. and Mrs. John 'Dierkes and Mr. and Mrs. Chalmer Lee. The Aeolian choir will meet tonight in the Decatur high school music room at 7 o'clock. The Rosary society will meet at the Knights of Columbus hall Monday evening at 8 o’clock. The Pythian Sisters will have practice for the staff and officers Monday evening at 7:30 o’clock at the' K. of P. home. ’ The Decatur Garden ; club will meet Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home of Mrs. G. Remy Bierly. Mrs. Fred Hancher will be the lander. Five members of the American Legion auxiliary unit 43 attended the fourth district meeting at Ossian Wednesday in an all day meeting. Those attending were Mrs. Ed Bauer, Mrs. Elmer Darwachter, Mrs. Heiman Dierkes, Mrs. Frances Monahan, and Mrs. T. C. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gass of Lake City, la., returned home Wednesday after spending a week with Mr. and Mrs. V. J. Borman and other relatives in Decatur. The city of Berne is adding two plats of ground in the southwest part of town. One consists of eight lots being platted by Eli J. Graber and the other of four lots being plotted by Leroy Neuensch wander. Robert Taylor, who lives near Bryant, was quite seriously injured in an automobile accident at Coldwater, Mich., this week. He is still in the hospital there and believed to be recovering. He is employed as a representative of the U. S. Rubber Company. s Thomas Agler, coach at the Hartford township high school, while eating fish several days ago a small bone lodged in one of his tonsils and all efforts by physicians have tailed to dislodge the "bone. Ho is being treated by a Fort Wayne specialist. William Barner of Geneva, route 1, underwent a major operation at the Wells county hospital yesterday. The community is far short of the number needed to be scheduled in order to reach the ’l5O pint quota. Decatur people have been asked to help fill the quota. Those interested may go to Berne Friday and present themselves as 'walk-in' donors or they may call the local Red Cross office and indicate the tifne they would like to give.
