ADAMS COUNTY HOST TO ROADSIDE COUNCIL Adams county will be host to the annual fall meeting of the Indiana Roadside Council, Inc., of the Fort Wayne district to be held Friday at the Geneva Kozy Korner restaurant. Registration will begin at 9:30 o’clock with Mrs. Freeman Walters, Mrs. William Kohls, and Mrs. L. E. Archbold in charge. Mr's. B. C. Green will preside over the business session, which will begin at 10:30 o'clock. Devotions will be given by Rev. McCain of Geneva. welcome by Mrs. Edward Thurman, and the response by Mrs. Sophie Diefenbaugh. The business session will consist of the secretary’s report, treasurer’s report, report of executive board, committee report, and report of the county presidents. L. E. W M A IN RECENT MEETING The W.M.A. of the Nuttman Avenue United Brethren church met recently at the home of Mrs. Bess. The leader, Mrs. Diehl, op' ened the meeting by reading a prayer poem. Mrs. Thornton. Mrs. Lundin, Mrs. Roth, Mrs. Smitley, Mrs. Byron Hart, Mrs. Bess, and Mrs. Gray assisted Mrs. Diehl in presenting, the lesson Roll call was given and the minutes of the last meeting were read. Thirteen members and two visitors were present. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Dague. and Mrs. Ferrel will be the leader. Plans wd’re made for the bazaar and bake sale to be held at the city hail December 4. MONMOUTH MOTHERS WILL MEET MONDAY The Monmouth P. T. A. A turkey supper was enjoyed by approximately 200 people. Following the supper, chairman Omer Merriman opened the business meeting and immediately turned it over’ to the 4-H junior leaders for a program of musical numbers. with Miss Kathleen Boerger in charge. The county agent, L. ®. Arch-, bold, and the 4-H adult leaders, were in charge of awarding the pins to over 100 boys and girls. An interesting movie followed. Friends here have learned that Mrs. William H. Bell, Lake Tippecanoe. formerly of Decatur, is recovering from a throat operation which she underwent about two weeks ago at a Cleveland. 0., hospital. Mrs. Bell, who suffered a leg fracture about 10 months ago, also is reported almost fully recovered from that injury. Morton A. Bailing has been admitted to the Veterans hospital in Fort Wayne. He underwent surgery Tuesday for a back injury he received in the service. His room number is 3E-556. Otto Beehler will leave early Thursday morning for Madison where he will be joined by his son. Carl, and they will motor on to the Smokey mountain area of Tennessee and North Carolina for a short visit. E. N. Tonnelier, of 342 South Third street, is recovering from a broken arm received in a fall from the second floor of his garage a couple of weeks ago. He will have to wear the cast another month. Herb Hoffman, Bluffton high school football coach, suffered an attack, of appendicitis which came on him suddenly after he had gone to school to begin his work. He was rushed to the Clinic hospital and an emergency appendectomy performed. He is reported in satisfactory condition. John L. Coberty, 28, of Champaign, 111., was arrested by trooper Maag and charged with traveling 80 miles an hour from Adams 'county through Wells to the Huntington county line on 224. He posted a bond for $16.75 in city court at Bluffton and was released. Legion To Observe Veterans Day Here Members of American Legion post 43 will mark 'Veterans' day Thursday with a brief ceremony at 11 a. m. at the Legion home and a smorgesbord dinner and entertainment in the evening. The Rev. Otto Busse, who is in charge of the morning ceremony commemorating deceased veterans of American's wars, will be speaker for the occasion. The Legion firing squad and a bugler will also participate. The smorgasbord will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p. m. at the Legion home. Free entertainment will begin at 8 p. m. In charge of arrangements are Robert Smith of the Legion and Mrs. Ed Bauer of ,the legion auxiliary, > GIRL SCOUT Girl Scout troop four had their sceoUd meeting of the year in front of the Decatur high school. Plans were made for a half day hike Saturday from 9 o’clock to 1 . o’clock. Scribe, Cassie Kay Brownie Scout troop 12 met Tuesday evening after school. We had the Brownie promise, roll call, and dues were collected. The Girl Scout calendars were given out to be delivered by the girls. The troop sold a total of42ff calendars. We then played games led by the president, Marjorie Peterson. The girls in charge of the Thanksgiving party are Kathleen Mallonee, Patty Schurger, and Janet Winteregg. We closed our meeting with the Brownie song. - Scribe, Mary Lynn Webster. Girl 'Scout troop two held a meeting Tuesday after school. We talked about badges. Former Governor McNutt Improves Hospital Patient In New York City NEW YORK, (INS) — Paul V. McNutt, former Indiana governor and U. S. high commissioner to the Philippines, was reported rapidly improving in New York hospital today after treatment for an undisclosed ailment. The 63-year-old McNutt, who alsd served as federal security administrator and chairman of the war manpower commission, entered the hospital about two w-eesk ago. His wife said today he is "getting alone fine” and that the former government official went out for a drive with her Tuesday, and plans to repeat it today. She said she did not know the nature of his ailment. Hospital officials would not disclose information on the case, blit declared there had not been any surgery performed on McNutt. McNutt is expected to leave the hospital permanently soon. Named To Serve On . . Extension Committee Mrs. Dwight Schnepp and Alton Corson were elected to serve as Washington township representatives on the county extension committee for a two-year term. The election was held last evening at Washington township annual achievement meeting, during which the 4-H club members received theri pins and awards. Mrs. Schnepp Corson replace Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bluhm, who have' served on the county extension committee for the past two years. Tax Office Is Out Os Hotel Business INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — The Indianapolis office of the United States internal revenue was out of the hotel business today after a two hour fling at the enterprise. Andrew Kostas paid the bureau >4,387.34 in overdue taxes and got the keys back to his West Point Hotel in downtown Indianapolis a few hours after the tax office took control.

Funeral Thursday For Frank Foster Frank Foster, 61, farmer of near Monroeville, died Tuesday at the Adams county memorial hospital, where he had been a patient two weeks. Surviving are his wife, Esther; three sons, Clyde and Richard of Monroeville and John W. of Dixon,. O.; a daughter, Mrs. Lois Klinker, and his mother; Mrs, Anna Foster, both of Monroeville, a brother, Fred of Fort Wayne, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:45 p. in. Thursday at the Marquart funeral home and at 2 p. in. in St. Mark’s Lutheran church at* Monroeville, with burial in the Monroeville lOOF cemetery. Farm Bureau Opens State Convention INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — The Indiana Farm Bureau Opened its 36th annual convention today in Indianapolis with a new membership record practically assured for the coming year. The 1954 Bureau total is 116,905 member families, a 9,000 increase over 1953. Enrollment for 1955 indicate that the 1955 figure will ■move the fgiure even higher.
