EMBLEM CLUB HOLDS OCTOBER MEETING The Emblem club held their October meeting Thursday evening at the Elks home with the president, Mrs. Dale Death, presiding. Plans for initiation were discussed and the date set for November }l, All Emblem members were urged to attend. At the conclusion of the business meeting a social hour was held with the hostess serving refreshments. Hostesses for the evening were Mabel Murray, Marie Deininger, Pat Mansfield, and Jean Gilliom. The door prizes were won by Jessie Newton and Virginia Frey. HALLOWEEN PARTY « HELD BY SORORITY A Halloween party of the Delta Lambda and Xi Alpha Xi chapters of Beta Sigma Phi 'was held recently at the home of Mrs. William Affolder. After all masked members had_been identified, < on L tests were played, then refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Martin Weiland. All guests were presented with favors and canasta was played for the remainder of the evening, with Mrs. James Elberson winning the prize. MRS. THEARL STULTZ HOSTESS TO MEETING Mrs. Thearl Stultz was hostess to the’ Union township home demonstration club Wednesday with 21 members, three guests and seven children present. Mrs. Fred Marbach called the meeting to order. A short business meeting was held with officers for the coming year elected as follows, Mrs. Thearl Stultz, president; Mrs. Chalmer Barkley, vice-president; Mrs. Ivan Barkley, secretary; Mrs. Marioh Stultz, treasurer; Mrs. Nellie Price and Mrs. Rolland Gilliom, leader; Mrs. Don Smith and Mrs. Arnold Roughia, alternate leaders, and Mrs. Earl Chase, reporter, Mrs. Nellie Price gave a revieof the handicraft meeting held recently at Monroe and Mrs. Hugh Nidlinger presented the lesson. During the .social hour refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mis. Stultz and Mis. Arnold Roughia. Mrs. Basil Ge'phart was welcomed as a new member, FALL BANQUET HELD ___ FOR PAST PRESIDENT Forty-five past president of local home demonstration clubs and the county home agent were served their fall banquet by the Hartford township*home demonstration club Friday evening at the Hartford school. •& Following the meal Mi's. Carl Frey, this year's president, conducted the business meeting. The newly—elected officers are Mrs. John Leys®, president; Mrs. Holman E«ly.' vice presidentr and 'Mi*. Kruetzman, secretary. Other retiring officers a« Mrs. Dan Striker, vice president; end Mrs. Paul Erp. secretary. Amusing entertainment was- presented by several members of the group. PARTY HONORS JOHN TYNDALL Employes at the county court house Friday honored John Tyndall who is observing his 93rd birthday today. A large decorated cake with the inscription, “Happy Birthday, John" was presented to the honor ed guest. Mr. Tyndall, in spite of his age, is at work every day in the surveyor's office where he assists in viewing ditch proposals. OPEN SUNDAYS 8 A. FRIEND’S NIGHT OBSERVED BY EASTERN STAR The Decatur chapter of the Order of Eastern Star observed friend’s night Thursday at the •Masonic hall with 163 members and guests present. Mrs. Hilda Hanes of Kendallville and 1 Mrs. Gertrude Dickey of Fort Wayne, officers of the grand chapter of Indiana, were present. The degrees of the order were conferred by officers from Geneva,' Fort 'Wayne, Huntington. Portland 1 , Huntertown, Monroeville, Mt. Etna, Columbia City, Warren, Poe. Pennville. Ossian, Bluffton and Harlan. Guests were also present from Ohio City, o. A short program was presented in which Mrs. Dan Tyndall sang and the guest officers were presented with gifts from the Decatur chapter. After the meeting, everyone was invited to the dining room to meet old friends and make new ones. The dining rodm was decorated in keeping with the Hall oweeh season aii d refresh ments were served. DISTRICT MEETING IS HELD RECENTLY District five of the diocesan Council of Catholic Women met recently at the K. of C. hall. The meeting was opened with prayer. A group of girls from Decatpr Catholic high school sang several selections. An address was presented by Father Roessler. Deanery officers were present and each one spoke briefly. Parish chalrntm gave reports of the spiritual activities in their respective parishes. The Catholic Ladies of Columbia will have a busines. meeting Tuesday evening at 7; 30 o’clock at the C. L. of C. hall. The Wesley class of the Methodist church will meet Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock in the recreation room of the church. The Aeolian choir will have practice Sunday afternoon at 2 'oclock at the Zion Lutheran parish hall. Tri Kappa will have a business meeting at the Elks home Tuesday at 7:30 o'clock. The D. A. V. auxiliary ill have a chili supper at the hall Thursday evening fiom 5 o’clock to 7 o’clock. The Bobo United Brethren church will have a women’s missionary association meeting Thursday at 7 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Catherine Daniels. Frank Runischlag, who has been j visiting with friends and relatives ,in Decatur since September 26, will .return Thursday to Moosehaven, which has been his home ■ for the past 12 years.
