Dewey has hinted today that court action may be started in an effort to force Democratic gubernatorial candidate Averell Harriman off the ballot. Dewey quoted the New York state Constitution, which states that no person may become governor who has not been a resident of the state for at least five con secutlve years. in a television talk Wednesday night Dewey claimed that Harriman had sworn in 1952 that he was a resident of the District of Columbia., and had voted in a primary election there. Harriman is running against Re pubtienn Senator Irving Ives for the office, which will be left ta cant by Dewey's retirement. AF L LEADER (Continued from Page One) peal Tuesday night for election of a Republican congress. Meany said that while there was a drop in listed unemployment, there was an accompanying drop in employment. He added that non farm work picked up because school teachers are going back to work. NOBEL PRIZE ■ (Continued from Page One) But a few days after his supposed death, “Papa," as he is known to his close friends, came striding out of the jungle with the fantastic story of having survived not one. but two plane crashes. When Hemingway wrote of hunters, soldiers, bullfighters and prize fighters, he wrote not only from his knowledge of these people but of his personal experience. For the reading public of the last 30 years he brought to life what he called “the moment of truth” when courageous men met death with dignity.

Promote Patrolman Who Arrested Brown Promotion Mode » Before Incident INDIANAPOLIS- (INS) — The Indianapolis board of public safety has promoted a patrolman Involved in the drunken driving arrest oft Marion county clerk IL Dale HroWn. Brown was acquitted of the charge and in turn charged the entire Incident was part of a “political franieup” to ruin his chances for re-election next Tuesday. Brown heads the Elsenhower faction of the Republican party in Marion county while Mayor Alex Clark heads the Jenner Capehart faction. Police chief John Ambuhl testified that patrolman William D. Sullivan was recommended “orally” for promotion two weeks ago in a meeting at Mayor Clark’s home and that Ambuhl had not got around to putting it in writing until Tuesday. The question was raised by hoard president Paul J, Shick, who |asked: “is this the same man who was ! involved in that altercation Saturi day night?” The chief replied he knew of no ' altercation but that, Sullivan had , arrested the county clerk and that arrest had nothing to do with his recommendation.
