One Prep Team Ends Season Undefeated INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — One Indiana high school football team has finished undefeated, four more will try to make it this week while seven other untopped elevens have two or three more hurdles. Beech Grove made it home safe with a 27-7 victory over the Indiana School for the Deaf in Indianapolis. It was the Hornets’ second perfect season in 10 years of 11-man football. The last came in 1946. Southport, although beaten, won the South Central Conference title Tuesday night with a 25-12 victory over Shelbyville. Southport trailed 6-0 at the half and had gained only 12 yards rushing at intermission. A win Friday night at Crawfordsville would finish a perfect season for Rensselaer, the state’s winningest grid squad. The Bombers are 9-0 for the season. Particularly anxious to attain the rarer than rare perfect season are eight Bombers who will close the book on their prep grid careers at Crawfordsville. Only South Bend Riley stands a chance of matching the Bombers in total victories for regular season play. Riley now shows a 7-0 record with three regular games left to play. Riley faces Michigan City Friday night in a game that appears destined to give SBR the East NIHSC crown. Should ißiley ride the rest of the way unbeaten and take the post-season playoff for the all-North Indiana crown, its record then would stand at 11-0. Danville’s Mid-State Conference champs take a perfect 7 0 mark to Bloomington University, Friday, for a season ender. Auburn, with a matching 7-0 record closes the season at Garrett, and Royerton, also 7-0, turns on the lights for Hartford City. Only one team, New Albany, has a chance to go unblemished all the way with only two games remaining. The Bulldogs take on Shawnee, of Louisville, Ky., Saturday, and appear a shoo-iii for the Southern Indiana crown the following Saturday against Evansville Bosse. Two teams have only, two more to go for unbeaten but once tied records. Indianapolis B z r oa d. Ripple, sporting a 6-0-f mark, tanataa with Indianapolis Cathedral this Friday night. The Rockets close the -season Nov. sth against cityHvaJ Shortridge. Muncie Central, the North Central Conference power, has a 5-0-1 mark as it enters Friday night’s battle with Fort Wayne Central. Indianapolis Tech, currently sharing the NCC lead with the Bearcats, also is non-looping Friday against Indianapolis Washington. Central and Tech battled to a tie Oct. 1, currently are tied with identical NCC records and play one more loop game—Muncie home to Lafayette, and Tech home to Frankfort, both Nov. 5. ... One more unbeaten but tied eleven, Princeton, with a 5-0-1, has three to go. Next up is an annual grudge battle with Washington’s Hatchets. but not least. East Chicago Roosevelt, hailed by many as the top prep team tn the state, is 6-0 to date, with three left on the schedule. Next up is a tilt with Whiting, the Oilers who greased the chute that shot East Chicago Washington out of the state's unbeaten picture. 1 Roy Campanella Says Hand 'Feels Great' NEW YORK (INS) — Brooklyn Dodger catcher Roy Campa nella will be discharged from .Queens Memorial hospital today, a wetk after undergoing an exploratory operation on his ailing left hand. . „ Campanella, who will be 33 on Nov. 19, said Tuesday the hand "feels great" . . .
