WICKARD (Continued frdm Page One) prices whioh th* farmer pays for goods are more than ever out of proportion with the price he receives for what he produces.” “The Republican administration lias never effectively told the farmers of America that the Republican farm bill is not a compromise on support prices at 82>4 percent of parity. Actually, it is a measure that provides for supports at 75 percent of a fair price. The 82% percent is in effect only for the first year—after that it is 75 percent. Also, the farmer has not been told that a so-called modern parity (modern means lower, in Republican terms) will be the base of the Republican farm law, and that this will actually reduce price supports still further. When the new farm bill is in full effect, the support price on corn will be 40 cents below what it is today, and 75 cents low'er for wheat. Hog Prices Lower “The one rule the Republican congress has not been able to repeal is the corn-hog ratio which simply states that the prices of hogs will be about 12% times the price of a bushel of corn. When the price of corn drops 40 cents, hogs will drop about five dollars a Using Purdue extension bulletWickard’ showed that agricultural experts expect at least a six percent decline in farm prices next year, while costs will remain high. Attacking the Republican trickledown theory, that benefits should be given to big’ business, so that prosperity can ‘trickle-down” to the average man. Wickard pointed out that none of It ever trickles, and it just means more money for the privileged few. He used as an example the giveaway of powdered milk surpluses, not to farmers who could use them to low’er feed costs, but to large feed corporations who, with cheaper materials,

still charged the same price for their feed. "None of it ever trickled down to the fanner, and none of It ever will. The only way to insure prosperity is to ensure it at the grass roots —every man with plenty of money to Spend. We need an increase in production—we need an increase in buying power of the individual—which only a Democratic Congress can insure.” Wickard drew applause Several times, especially when he mentioned a Democratic victory this fall, the Coolidge farm program as the major cause of the depression, and the help that President Roosevelt had given to the farmers In their time of greatest need. WEST GERMANY <Continued From I’age One) the federal republic'- wilt- “guaranty" the security of allied forces in Germany from any internal threat.’ PETERSON IS (Continued from Page Oja el 40- y ear-old ArVinitoib Va” mah. Government prosecutors comple ted their case by mid-afternoon Tuesday and left the grand jury room in Alexandria, Va., federal court to await a decision. However, they were repeatedly summoned -back by the grand Jury before the panel recessed with an announcement that no decision had been reached, and with a request for a copy of the judge’s earlier instructions. Petersen, tall and soft-spoken, waited throughout the day Tuesday for a decision. Five witnesses, including a top government code expert, have appeared before the closed-door sessions since Monday, when Judge Albert V. Bryan warned the panel that ‘'suspicion is not enough” to indict. The case has been shrouded in secrecy since Petersen was arrested by the FBI on Oct. 9 and charged with “improperly obtaining” classified defense documents, possibly for a foreign nation.
