Spiritual Mission Opens Here Sunday - Methodist Church To Hold Services gw I [U, A week-lotig mission to deepen the spiritual lives of its members will be held here by the First Methodist church October 17-22. According to the Rev. Virgil Wesley Sexton, pastor, more than 12<»0 Methodist churches in the state will conduct similar missions this fall. The program is being conducted in two phases. The north phase, which is„ being conducted next week, has as guest ministers men coming from the southern part of the state. The south phase will be conducted November 7-12 and will have ministers from the northern part of the state. The Rev. Virgil Sex ton will preach in the Central Avenue Methodist eburth, Indianapolis, at that time. The spiritual life mission here will start with the morning worship service next Sunday and continue each evening through Friday, October 22. The Rev. Richard C. Gillum. pastor of the Milroy Methodist church, Milroy, will be the guest minister. Rev. Gillum will preach seven times during the week on the "Holy Habits of the Spiritual Life." On Sunday morning. October 17. he will preach on "Tools of the Chris tian Faith.” Beginning Sunday evening and continuing the remainder of the services, he will speak on a different Holy habit each evening. These include regular church attendance, family devotions, prayer, daily Bible reading tithing and witne.-witig. The guest minister is the son of the Rev. E. A. Gillum, chaplain of the state soldiers’ home, Lafayette. His mother, the former Mary Alene Patton* is a graduate of the Decatur high school, class of 18-13. His aunt is the former Effie Patton, who for many years was a teacher in the Decatur schools. Rev. Gillum is a graduate of DePauw University and of the Boston University school of theology He. has served pastorates at Evansville; Sandborn, and Brownsville ir addition to his present appointment at Milroy. He is"the Rushville district director of adult woik for the Methodist church and has just returned from the national conferejice on family life in Cleveland. Ohio,' where he was. an official delegate. In addition to the nightly services St the church a part of the mission will be friendly visitation in the homes of the membership. A group of couples have been selected to make these calls by the commission on membership and evangelism. of which Robert Laue ithe chaiiman. Purpose of the visitation will be to discuss the Holy habits and to invitejeople tojattend the services. Executive chairman of the statewide mission is the Rev. Edwin R. Garrison of Indianapolis. Connersville Judge To Fight Removal CONNERSVILLE. Ind. (INS) — Seventy-four-year-old Judge Alien Wiles today denounced stories that he la Infirm and announced he will fight all efforts to remove him from the Fayette Circuit Court bench. Prosecutor Jim C. Cordes asked Wiles removal several weeks ago and Monday filed a formal petition with the Indiana supreme court. Cordes contends the county has been without a circuit court since Wiles suffered a stroke a year ago. Wiles said he and his attorneys will appear before the Indiana supreme court before the Oct. 25
