Hurricane Moving In Caribbean Sea Hurricane Termed 'Very Dangerous' MIAMI (INS) —Hurricane Hazel, termed “very ibrngerous” toy weathermen, moved across the Caribbean Sea on a westerly course south of Haiti today. Navy planes fount the storm’s “eye" this morning and reported the highest winds had built up to 115 to 125 miles per hour. The storm had slowed from an earlier reported 12 mph forward speed to eight miles an hour. At it a. m. (ES) the storm center was about 345 miles south of Port Au Prince, Haiti., near latitude 13.fi north, longitude 72 2 we.-t. Church To Observe Anniversary
The First Christian church of Decatur will observe the 30th. anniversary otitre dedication of the present building with two services Sunday. October 17, it was announced today. The building was ' first dedicated October 26, 1924. The Rev. Clifford Lanman, former local pastor, now pastor of the Brazil Christian church, will speak . at a 9 30 am. service on rededica- . tion day. Following Rev. Lanman's sermon, regular Sunday school services will be held. J A dinner is planned at the noon hour at the church. To close the day's activities, Dr. Ephraim D. Love. general secretary of the Indiana Christian Missionary association. will speak at a 7:30 p.m. service. Ladies of the church will provide the noon dinner with Mrs. Elmer Darwachter as chairman. The arrangements committee includes Mrs. Homer Ruhl, chairman. Mrs. Paul Daniels, Mrs. Roy Stucky. J. E. Anderson, William Teeple,’ W. F. Kohls and Harmon Kraft. Invitations have been mailed to all non-resident members of the I
local church and they and their families have been Invited to take part in the all day affair. Brochures are being prepared which give a bfief history of the Christian church in Decatur with photographs of the cureh, speakers, and oldest board members. These will be presented to each person attending the gededication ceremony. The First Christian church has grown with the Decatur community in the last 3O’ years and is a part of that communion known as the Disciples of Christ. The local church plays a prominent part in that brotherhood. It is a part of the fifth district of the Disciples of Christ In Indiana. The present building is located at the corner of Jefferson and Second streets in Decatur. Friends of the church also are invited to attend both the morning and evening dedication services. DAV Holds Meeting Thursday Evening To Contribute To Community Fund Members of the Disabled American Veterans voted last night In their regular meeting to supbort the Community Fund with a contribution this year. R. P. Sommer, commander of chapter 91, said today. The date of the annual forget-me-not sale was chahged to October 22 and 23. Money from the sale will be used to support disabled ve.erans in hospitals throughout the state. A letter was read at the meeting from the state auxiliary thanking the local chapter for its contribution to the fund for hospitalized veterans. Thursday night, November 4, was announced as the date of the chili supper, which will be open to the public. The ladies of the auxilary will serve the dinner between 5 and 7 o’clock. James Cochran was appointed chairman of the stag party committee. and announced that there would be a stag party and chicken dinner Sunday, October 17, starting at 11:30 a m.
