New Mexico banks must be bulging with money. A bandit hild up one in Albuquerque and walked away with 3111,000. If his next stop is Las Vegas, he will wind up broke. —o .. In an attempt to get-some rest and relaxation, President Eisenhower has gone to the famous Byers Peek ranch near Fraser, Col., where assistants say the sign reads, "No business, no news, no visitors”. The President is entitled to seclusion from the daily grind. —X-0— Sen. Irving Ives of New York will not be the only member of congress who will be campaigning this fall for a governorship. Edwin Johnson, with three terms to his credit, was nominated by Democrats for governor of Colorado. If elected the two executives will probably find 'the governorship an easier job than being senator, along with relief from Washington's strenuous living. ’ —o It is not criticism of present methods to say that the city might need a night police patrol in the effort to combat the hoodlurns who are breaking into stores and qfflces. Possibly patrol j of the whole city is not feasible, but a plan shifiiar to the highway •‘wolf-pack’’ idea, might lessen the chance of thieves in burglarising our places of business. We should make an effort to put these night workers on the run. rO-—0 The trend in Maine was to the Democrats, in addition to elect-. Inga governor for the first time in 20 years, Democrat candidates for congress made a decided gain. The Republican vote in the Pine Tree state was reduced by more than 12 percent, despite the popularity of Sen. Margaret Chase Smith who headed the ticket. As goes Maine, may be a poor omen for the COP in November. '•'■■U-n.n.O —-.4k— Democrat governor-elect Edmund Muskie of Maine will share the platform with Adlai Stevenson at the Democrat rally in Indianapolis Saturday night. The youthful executive became famous over night after Maine election returns came In and evidently has the leadership and campaigning ability that spells victory. A delegation from this county will attend the state campaign opener.
Skin Discloses Illness
By HOMAN N. BUNMSEN, BLD. SKIN symptoms are not to be considered lightly. At times they may be the first evidence of some disease of the Internal organa Skin changes, when brought to the attention of a physician, can often speed the diagnosis of the underlying disease. Certain dangerous and almost always fatal diseases of the lymph glands, such as Hodgkin’s disease, have as their first symptom severe and uncontrollable itching of the skin with a rash appearing later on. Such Itching may also Indicate diabetes. Leukemia, or cancer of the blood, may have as its first symptom a rash with tiny hemorrhages into the skin. Little yellow growths on the eyelids may be the first sign of some difficulty with the fat utilization of the body, such as occurs In pancreatitis. Liver disease can bring small spider-like eruptions to the body with an absence of hair on the skin of the chest

Secretary of the Treasury Humphrey and the budget experts have misled their on government financing by some two billion dollars. They say that the federal budget will be out of balance four billion dollars next June. Taxes have fallen oft and the treasury officials say that expenses will have to be reduced if the government is to avert a big deficit for .the current fiscal year. They should work toward that end, for we have been told that deficit financing causes inflation. -—o Double Salute:— Often anniversaries come and go, their only significance being the observance of another year or decade, meriting no gala note. Today however, an anniversary of a memorable event Is lavishly celebrated, its importance mul-’ tlpiied. instead of diminished with the years. Today is the 20th anniversary of the founding of Central Soya Company in this city, by that dynamic, self-confident master salesman, Dale W. McMillen Sr., philanthropist, industrialist and above all, a great gentleman. So we are gloriously celebrating here and in Fort Wayne, the founding of this outstanding successful industrial enterprise that started with one bushel of soybeans ®and today processes some 40 million bushels. With an initial capital of 3125,000, this saga of American enterprise now js a giant in the financial world with an investment exceeding 35 millions, headed toward 8150,000,000 in annual sales. Besides Decatur's skyline of towering silos and vast modern plant, similar installations and mills are located in a half dozen states, providing employment for nearly 2,500 persons. While not solely the dream of just one man, Dale W. McMillen is the spark- that created this far flung industry and its progress continues to tick with his blood. With the Company’s anniversary. a salute is given today to Mr. McMillen's approaching 75th birthday anniversary. This city Is brighter, its homes are aglow and citizens live and work with a rosier hue because of the eventful founding of the industry that has meant so much to the progress and prosperity of this community. In a moment of pride and exab tatlon Francis Scott Key penned the immortal words, "The bombs bursting in air” and in that spirit we salute “Mr. Mac” on his birthday.
Diabetes can cause severe skin changes, with the body and especially the legs and arms being covered by a small eruption of yellow pimples. Sometimes a person who is not known to be diabetic develops red and brown plaques over the front of the legs with a violet ring around them This skin rash is typical of the person who will develop diabetes within a few years. The skin can indeed disclose many severe illnesses that should be given proper and prompt care. QUESTION AMD ANtWEB Mr. O.: 1 had a rupture operated on six months ago. It has now returned. Overloaded Wires Cause Home Fires ' WASHINGTON (INS) —Twelve percent of home fires have been blamed on the misuse of electricity according to safety experts with the U. S. department of agriculture. They reported that overloaded wires have become an increasing home hazard as families plug in more electrical equipment, especially high-wattage and automatic appliances without modernizing household wiring systems. Overloaded wires, the specialists explained, blow fuses or overheat and damage insulation, then may start fires smoldering in the walls. According to some estimates, as many as half the U. 8. home wiring systems need modernizing to keep pace with air conditioners, clothes dryers, television sets, home freezers and many other appliances. By 1955 well-equipped homes are expected to be using twice as mudh electricity as in 1945.

Gypsies To Eled International King Ist International Congress Planned SEVILLE, Spain. (INS) r- The first Europe-wide “king” of the gypsies will be elected this October in Seville at the first International Congress of Gypsies. Among the gypsies who will attend there -will be delegations from France, Italy, Austria, Germany, England and some who have fled from countries behind the Iron Curtain. Although the congress specifies that it Is only for Catholic gypsies, the real distinction is more one of class than of religion. Rich gypsies get b&ptbed and married in the Catholic church, whereas many of the poorer one* are apt to ignore church canons as well as state laws, such as compulsory military service. However, when gypsies are at all religious they are almost always Catholics. Few-, if any, have been seriously converted to Protestantism. Visitors to Seville during the
congress will be more likely to see the smart Cadillacs of wealthy gypsies than the caravans of those who come from their humble cave dwellings throughout Andalucia. Although the gypsies are hesitant to say who is likely to be elected king, it is almost certain he will be from one of the highranking families claiming direct descent from the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. As a striking contrast to most of their people, those aristocratic gypsy families are usually wealthy and engaged in respectable livelihoods. They normally take on the speech and national traits of their adopted country. However, very rarely do they marry non-gypsies. Public opinion in Spain about the gypsies is divided. Some Spaniards despise them for their vagrant way of life and aloofness from society. Others admire them for their imaginative folklore. Up to the present time there have been many gypsy "kings” ruling in parts of Spain and other European countries. The late Celedonio Vazquez Silva. one of the more famous latterday gypsy "kings” ruled for 25 years over all the gypsies in the Spanish regions of Andalucia and Extremadura until his death last November.

King Celedon io I achieved world renown in gypsidom as a wise leader with democratic ideals. He was often quoted as saying “kings should not he despots . . . but instead they should play the role oC a father to their people.” A gypsy king is unlike an ordlnary monarch. His main duty is to step into the frequent, sometimes violent gypsy quarrels, which are usually solved in a style worthy of Solomon’s biblical verdicts. He sees to it that the rightful owner gets his own property back, whether it be his wife, his donkey or his blackmarket American foune tain pen. Foreign Bom FORT HOOD, Tex., (INS) —The Fourth Armored Division based at Fort Hood boasts 55 men who were born in 14 different countries and U. S. territories. Countries represented are China, Germany, Guam, Hawaii, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Nicaragua, PhiXlipines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Siciliy, Ukraine and ’ Yugoslavia. "Seeing ourselves as others see u» wouldn’t do us much good—we wouldn’t believe it anyway!"
