Typhoon Kills 32 In Japan, 14 Are Missing Southern Japan Is Hard Hit By Storm, Homes Destroyed TOKYO (INS) — Typhoon June swirled over the Stki of Jss»n today leaving in its destructive wake 32 persons known dead and another 14 missing. In addition. 104 persons were reported injured. The raging storm hit southern Japan Monday bearing heavy rains and high winds which flooded homes and disrupted transportation. A total of 122,000 homes on the Japanese islands of Kyushu and Shikoku were flooded and 2,200 of them were listed as destroyed. Railroads were broken at 109 places by floods and landslides. The storm hit with winds clocked as high as *0 miles per hour and then headed over the Sea of Japan with its fury apparently abated. — - ' - ■ There was the possibility, however. that it might strike the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido bn its northeasterly course. V. Communist Truce Inspectors Accused Republic Os Korea Hurls Spy Charges SEOUL (INS) — The. Republic of Korea charged today in an official public "statement that Communist truce inspectors have been using their official positions to spy on the United Na'tions command. A news release from the South Korean public information office said that Communist members of the four-nation truce inspection commission have been guilty of ‘spying, propaganda and agitation activities." The release said the Communists had tried to “obtain military secrets” of the United. Nations and South Korea while they ostensibly carried out duties connected with truce inspection. The ROK announcement was directed pointedly at delegates from the Communist satellite nations, Poland and Czechoslovakia who compose the truce’ commission along with members frOtn Sweden and Switzerland. The ROKs also charged that Russians and Chinese Communists disguised themselves to gain control of the truce commission. Chinese Ships Blast Island Held By Reds ' Nationalist Navy = Takes Over Lead In Blasting Red Bases TAIPEH (INS) — Chinese Na .ionalist warships steamed up to the very mouth of Communist big guns today to blast a Red-held island on the China coast. The Nationalist navy took the iead in the 12-day old military action against Red China’s coastal bases and bombarded Chinfu atoll which lies, just south of Atnoy island, (he big Communist base which has been battered mercilessly fiom the air and from the sea. , Resulte Os the Chinyu bombird•nient were not immediately an nounced. Thera, was an apparent slackening of Nationalist air force action against the Reds. A Nationalist communique said "our air force continued reconnaissance and bombing missions against Amoy," apparently on a reduced scale. — ~-rEarlier unofficial' reports from Quency said that the Nationalist planes were limited to reconnaissance missions in contradiction of the official bulletin.' The communique also reported that three so-called “water ghosts" —Red Junks carrying infiltrators — tried to land on heavily-defended Quemoy island but were caught. .Nationalist-held Quemoy lies just eight miles east of Amoy. The current military action began a week ago last Friday when shore-based Red artillery began shelling Quemoy which lies on the invasion route to Formosa, Chiang Miaishek’s capital island The Nationalists responded to the Quemoy bombardment with what thew called a.
