MRS. RALPH ROOP IS W.B.W.S. LEADER Mrs. Ralph Roop was the leader for the W.B.W.S. of the Trinity E.U.B. church Tuesday evening. The theme for the evening was <• "Christ Calls Me to New Frontiers.” Mrs. Frank Hohnke presented the prelude and the opening song was JO Master Let Me Walk wjh V Thee.” Scripture was read by Mrs. 'D. C. Wynn after which Mrs. Nina Light offered prayer. "Thoughts on Family Fellowship and Prayer" and "The World, My Home" were given by Mrs. Bohnke and Mrs. Sautbine. FARM BUREAU HOLDS AUGUST MEETING The August meeting of the Preble township Farm Bureau was held recently at the Friedhelm school. Richard Miller, president, opened the meeting and devotions were given by Rev. Fenner. Mrs. Richard Miller read a poem, "Sowing Seeds," after which 'Mrs. Irvin Worth man read the safety rules for term safety week. She also told the ten rules for safety working with tractors. Judge Mylee F. Parrish was the guest speaker for the evening. He gave a very informative talk on juvenile delinquency. A discussion followed. There were 32 members and four guests present Delicious refreshments were served by Mrs. Metrin Buuck and Mrs. Edwfn Reifstect EXECUTIVE BOARD OF GUILD MEETS HERE The Fort Wayne regional Women's guild executive board of the Evangelical and Reformed church met Wednesday with the local women’s guild in the church parlors. MISS SONJA BHOUP ENGAGED TO MARRY Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Shoup, Willshire, 0., announce the engagement of their only daughter, Sonja Sue, to A2/c William E. Arnold, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Arnold, Bluffton. The bride-elect is a telephone operator at the Willshire, 0., exchange and her fiance will be sent to England with the U.S. armed forces in September. He is now stationed at Davis Mothon air force base, Tucson, Ariz. No date, has been set for the wedding. The Women’s guild of the St. Luke’s Evangelical and Reformed church will hold an all day meeting Thursday in the church basement. SEMINAR TO BE HELD AT FORT WAYNE It was announced Thursday at' the meeting of the Salem W.S.C.S. that an educational seminar will be held at St. Paul's church, Fort Wayne. August 27. Plans were also told concerning the church picnic and a district meeting of Adams county women which will be held at the Mt. Pleasant church Sept. 16. The former event will

take place at Berne park Friday evening at six o’clock. y--—-The meeting, which was held at the home of Mrs. Grover Wolfe, was conducted by Mrs. * Claude Foreman, vice-president. Mrs. Clifford Roe was co-hostess. Mrs. Foreman opened the meeting with scripture reading and Mrs. Oscar Young led in prayer. The lesson study, "The Entrance of Thy Word Giveth Ute," was given by Mrs. Austin Merriman, assisted by Mrs. Rue Strayer. Mrs. Lloyd Meyer reviewed the "World Outlook" magazine. Mrs. Foreman then told the purposes of the W.S.C.S. and had all the members take part in a playlet, “Count Your Blessings.” The hostesses served refreshments to the 13 members, two children and one guest, Mrt. Clarence Longenberger. LUTHERAN PARISH HALL IS SCENE OF MEETING-.... (Members of the Zion Lutheran Needle club gathered at the parish ’hall Thursday for an all day meeting. - - - ■-~ Work was continued on two quilts; one for charity and the other for Mrs. Bienz. The new sewing machine, which was recently purchased by the club, was used by Mrs. Bowman. Guests present were Mrs. Webert, who will leave for' Chattanooga, Tenn, In the near future, Mrs. Ed Steele, (Mrs. Railing, Mrs. Schnepf, Mrs. Lizzie Bieberioh, Mrs. Victor 'Hoffman and Mrs. Ed Thieme. A delicious hot luncheon was •served at noon by the hostesses, Mrs. Anna Kiess and Mrs. Phil Sauer. Miss Janet Hetrick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Hetrick of South Sixth street, will leave Sunday tor Reid memorial hospital at Richmond where she will begin nurses training, in September she will be enrolled at Earlham college. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur E. Voglewede and Mr. and Mrs. Al D. Schmitt* attended ceremonies at St. Agnes convent, Fond du Lac, Wis., today in which their daughters, Barbara Voglewede and Margaret Ann Schmitt, were invested in the veil of the order of the Sisters of St. Agnea. Mrs. Charlie Voglewede and Miss Janette Pursley also attended the services. The Decatur young women entered the convent as candidates a year ago. Misses Martha and Barbara Scheel have returned to their home in Rockford, 111., after a five weeks visit here with their maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Linn. Mr. and Mrs. W. Ouy Brown are spending the weekend in Springfield, 0., and Indianapolis. Hugh Andrews, principal of the Decatur public high school, returned yesterday from the summer meeting of the North Central association of colleges and seoon-daj-y schools at Bloomington. Mary Meshberger Is Taken By Death Funeral Services Monday Afternoon Mrs. Mary Meshberger, 93, widow of Ben Meshberger, died at 6:30 o'clock Friday evening at her home one-half mile northwest of Linn Grove. Death was attributed to a stroke. She had been bedfast for the past two years. Mrs. Meshberger, a lifelong resident of the Linn Grove community, was a member of the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren church at linn Grove, Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clara Moser of Ligonier and Miss Omo Meshberger, at home; six grandchildren; 24 great-grand-children; two great-great-grand-children and a sister, Mrs. Harry Graham of Bluffton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren church at Linn Grove, the Rev. Cecil R. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Lipn Grove. Friends may call at the Yager funeral home after 6 o’clock this evening.

Gambling Charged At Jay County Fair Operation of bingo stands at the Jay county, Portland fair in progress this week brought about cease and go orders, the stands continuing to operate up to yesterday. 'Protest was made to the fair officials and the bingo stands -were closed Wednesday night. They operated again on Thursday and Friday. The Indiana gambling law was challenged by a Portland attorney and law enforcement officers did -not put a clamp on the games of chance at the fair. Governor To Lunch With Eisenhower INDIANAPOLIS (INS) —Governor George N. Craig said today he will go to Springfield, 111., next Thursday to have luncheon with President Eisenhower and Governor William G. Stratton erf Illinois during the governor’s day program at the Illinois state fair. Ten on Saturday, Craig will go to Grand Rapids, Mich., to deliver the keynotes speech at the Michigan Republican state convention. He also was keynoter for the South Dakota GDP state convention at Pierre July 26.

Agronomy Day Open House On Aug. 26 Chance To See Corn Under Irrigation Farmers from this area will bo given the chance to see corn under irrigation at the agronomy day open house at the Purdue experimental farm seven miles northwest of Lafayette on U.S. highway 52 On August 26. Farmers are invited to come when they can, morning or afternoon. By using overhead risers, the agronomists applied 10.5 inches of irrigation water during a rainless period lasting one month on the farm. This kept the corn yield from dropping, the agronomists claim. Farmers will be able to judge the results themselves during the farm field day. In an all-day program starting at 8:30 a.m„ farm experts will explain their first year's work in .irrigation of Clark soybeans, popcorn, sorghum and Sudan grass. This Is the second year the pastures have been irrigated on the farm. While irrigation is not practical I in most sections of Adams county away from the St. Mary's and Wabash rivers, fertilization, deep tillage, and light and water requirements for corn will be discussed. Extension and research specialists will be on hand to answer the questions of corn growers. Jan Garber Band At Indiana State Fair INDIANAPOLIS (INS) —Jan Garber and bis orchestra will play -during the Indiana state tfaJr whlch opens Sept. 2 for a nine-day run. The band will be heard in the Coliseum the first four days, providing accompaniment for Julius Laßosa, Eddie Fisber, the Mills Brothers and supporting acts.
