Farmer's Share Os Retail Dollar Less Biggest Price Drop To Farmer In June WASHINGTON (INS) -America’s farmers received a smaller share of the consumer dollar during the second quarter of 1954 than in any three month period since World War 11. Agriculture department figures shew that the fanner averaged 44 cents out of every retail doUar spent for food during the quarter, compared) with an average of 45 cents during the finst three month® of the year. The biggest drop, however, came in June when the farmer’s take dropped to 43- cents from the May level of 44 rente. This decline in the producer’s share of the housewife’s grocery dollar paralleled a precipitous drop in prices paid- farmers for their commodities. Parity ratio — which balances prices received by farmers against farm costs—fell three percent in the month ending June 15, to hK a 13-yeer low of 88 percent of parity. This low point wae maintained also through the month endihi iff of the consumer food' dollar during the second quarter of this year wan at a postwar low, it probably will average even lower for the third quarter which ends Sept. 30. The department saye prices received by farmers during the April to June period this year were three percent lower than during the corresponding period of 1953, and that most of this decline wee passed on to consumers. Much of the decline in farm prices, however, was absorbed in higher marketing charges. QUOTE DR.
