Annual Legion Golf Tourney August 29 The annual American Legion gelt tournament will be held Sunday, August 29, at the Decatur Golf club, starting at 10 In the morning, William L Linn, chairman of the event, reported at the semi-monthly Legion meeting last night. the tournament, which i> open to all Legion members, has been an annual summer affair since the golf club was opened in 1949 by CK D. Mac Lean, owner and opera* tor ot the club house and greens. The only charge for the tournament will be the green fees, Linn slated. All score cards should be turned in at the club house by 4 p;m., he added. Rules will be drawn up, and a list of prises will be released next week. C., August 30 until September 2. A committee to visit ailing members of the Legion was appointed by Koeneman, with Elmer Darwachter as Chairman, and the following members; Wendell Macklin, Charles Morgan, and Francis Noack. Additional members from the southern part of the county will be named later, Koeneman said. Don Caster, student at Reppert’s auction school and recently elected vice-commander of Post 86, Newton, N. J., was introduced as a guest, and commended both Legion Post 43 and Decatur on its reception for auction students. Next meeting of the local post will be August 23 at 8 p.m., Koeneman said. 20% Off! Decatur Pony League Teams Divide Honors Decatur’s Pony League teams divided honors in a double header at Worthman field Monday night, the Braves defeating the Bluffton Moose, 7-4, and the Cardinals losing to the Oeeian Boosters, 9-1. The Braves scored in each ofthe first four innings Cor their opening victory over the Moose. Kaehr, Ballard and Dellinger each contributed two hits to Decatur s attack, while Meyers limited the Bluffton team to only four safeties. Van Meter, Ossian hurler, held the Cardinals to two hits in the nightcap, both coming in the second inning when Moses walked, stole second and scored on Shraluka’S single. The Boosters made only five hits, but were aided by eight Decatur errors. The Cardinals are scheduled to meet the Moose at Bluffton Wednesday night, and the Braves are slated to play the Elks at Bluffton Thursday night. Indianapolis Beats Association Stars INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — The Indianapolis Indians, who have proved they are the best team in the American Association, hinted Monday night that they may be better than all the other teams combined. The Indians defeated tlse league’s All-Stars, 3 to 2, before 10,948 tans at Indianapolis In the first renewal of the Association classic since 1946. The All-Stars errors helped the league leaders gain their victory. In the eighth inning, with the score tied at 2-2, the Indians’ Bill Malmberg reached first base on an error and moved to third on a single by Gale Wade. All-Stars pitcher Bert Thiel of Toledo then threw wildly to first base trying to pick off Wade and Malmberg scored the winning run. Dick Tomanek. who took over the Indians mound duties in the sixth, was the winner. Thiel was . the loser. Ike Delock of Louisville blanked Indianapolis on one hit in his three-inning stint. Two games will be played tonight, the White Sox meeting the Yankees at 6:15 o'clock, followed by the Yankees and Indians, with the Yankees playing a double header. Wednesday night,' the Indians and Red Sox play at 8:15, followed by the Yankees and White Sox. Friday .night, the Yankees and Indians tangle at 6:15, followed by the Red Sox and White Sox. This will leave only one game, the White Sox and Indians, decision on which game will be made later. In event of rain preventing any games this final week, they will be cancelled. Game Raisers Art Invited To Picnic AH Adams county boys and girls who participated in the quail and preasant program sponsored by the Adams county conservation council have been Invited to a picnic Saturday. The affair will be held at the East shelter house of the Wells county park from 2 p. m. until 5 p. m. Included in the afternoon program Is a tour of the gatne farm.
