Legion Commander Lashes Out Al AMA Crusade Against Veterans Charged CHICAGO (INS) — The national commander of the American Legion charges that the American medical association is carrying on an anti-veteran crusade. Commanddr Arthur J. Connell, speaking Thursday at the opening session of the American Legion convention fa Chicago, lashed out at what he termed the AMA’s “effort to cripple the present veterans hospital program." Connell said the AMA proposes to treat as “paupers and Indigents” certain veterans with limited funds and nonservice connected ailments. In a statement issued after Connell spoke, Dr. George F. Lull of the AMA said organized medicine believes free government medical service should be limited to veterans with disabilities or diseases incurred in or aggravated by peace or war-time service. Earlie' - , the anti-subversive commission of the Illinois American Legion found what it termed unAmerican influences in the Girl Scout movement. Because of these findings, delegates will vote Friday on a proposal to withdraw Legion support from the Girl Scouts until: “Such time as it stops supplying United Nations and world government propaganda to America’s youth, restores time-honored American. pal riot ic and historical ideals in its teachings, and becomes what many think it is or should bet a real American organisation loyal to God and the American way of —— Edward Clamage of Chicago, chairman of the committee and author of the resolution, asserts that emphasis on UN matters in the 1953 Girl Scout handbook 'indicates the international trend of the movement.’’ Clamage charged that deletions in the 1953 edition include the bill of rights, information on the constitution and the great seal of the United States and other patriotic material.
