The race is between Sen. John Sherman Cooper, a Republican, and former Vice President Alben Barkley. Both men are very popular and have proved themselves able vote-getters. While Democrats hope to return Mr. Barkley to the senate, his opponent is an able member of congress. He has made a good record. The same is true of Alben Barkley. Few politicians are more widely respected or held In more genuine affection. He proved himself an able legialator in the years be spent In Washington and he was one of the most active vicepresidents in recent history. • Kentucky is fortunate in having two outstanding candidates in the race to represent the state in the United States senate.
