Mystery Surrounds Deaths In Arizona Open Verdicts Are Returned By Jury SCOTTSDALE, Aria. (INS)—The mystery surrounding the deaths of -Texas heiress Faye Demand and her next door neighbor. Councilman Vernon Donn Frederick, remained unsolved today. A coroner's jury which held inquests info both deaths, one right after the other in precinct court Friday afternoon, returned open verdicts that shed no new light on the cases. The jury found merely that Mrs. Demand, beautiful 29-year-old stepdaughter of the late Texas millionaire, James F. Lucy, drowned and that Frederick, 38, died of a gunshot wound. While the hearings were being conducted the dead woman’s busband, William D. Demand, 35-year-old photo shop owner, stood, outside the courtroom but did not enter. He was not called as a witness. Demand was formally charged with Frederick's murder last Thursday after the discovery of evidence tfjat the probably was killed with a pistol found tn the trunk of Demand's car. A bullet taken from Frederick's body and one fired from the pistol are being given ballistics tests In the Los Angeles police crime laboratory. Frederick was killed in his Scottsdale home last Tuesday evening. Less than an hour later Mrs. Demand drowned when her Cadillac convertible plunged into jt nearby irrigation canal. There is one theory that she, for some reason, killed Frederick, planted the pistol in her husband's car and then committed suicide.
