Mr. Rorelle says he was once teaching the passage of Scripture ending, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gift* to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him.” He asked one little boy what this passage meant to him, who in answer said, "Well, it looks to me that your daddy will give you fish and .eggs, but God might give you an ice-cream cone."
Our Preacher Says: Pride has worked moral hasards; It has given us headaches and brought just criticisms. Too long have the white people looked askance at those of another race or color. There are three times as many colored people as white in the world, and now as the backward nations are becoming free, we are justly criticised for . our racial attitudes. The court decision on non-segi4Qfttoa in our public schools is a step in the right direction- Thia must be confirmed by individual practice. World brotherhood is the way to world peace. Crearped comments on the Sunday school lesson, Christian Worship and Fellowship, Acts 2:4*, 47; Colossians 3:12-17; Hebrews 10:23-36, for Sunday, August 1. Christian fellowship and worship presupposes rich Christian experiences that must be expressed with others to maintain them. While thus sharing them, there la growth In th* Christian virtues springing out ot those experiences. V.M "And they, continuing daily with one accom in the temple, and breaking bread from house to bouse, did eat their moat with gladness and singleness of heart.” The temple worship was continued but supplemented with an exaltation of the Lord who having risen, had sent to them the Holy Ghost so that there was wrought a rfch Christian experience shared with each other especially in their homes.
▼.47. “Praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added daily to th* church such as should be saved.” The love of God is contagious; It is expressed in praises te God which are voiced in hymns of praise. Note that it is God that unites the converted to th* church. Th* local church simply lists the membership. The Christian worker first seeks to convert others and then when converted, the invitation to unite with the church is given. V. 12. “Put on therefor* as the elect of God. holy and b*lov*d, bowels ot mercy, kindness, humbleness qf mind, meekness, longsuffering." Pau) here addressee the Colosslan church whoa* members hav* experienced a life risen with Christ and ar* to be dead to self. The evidence ot this new life is seen in the virtues expressed in this and the following verse. V.ft. "And above all things put on charity which is the bond of perfection." Charity or love is the essence of all virtues. Hero is the Christian- teaching of belinena. HMMtMtewtioß?-complete tion. unconditioned and full Surrender to the will of God, the baptism of the Holy Ghost, a spiritfilled Hfe. perfect love, etc. This experience Is not to be scoffed at
The American Legion Is performing a valuable service in an organised effort against Communism. The following concepts form lhetf program, which they hope to project into the public mind. These concepts ar*: -1: A consciousness of th* necessity of religious emphasis 1* the lives es all 3. A desire to promote a 100 percent Americanism with particular emphasis upon the training of our youth. 3. The necessity of continued education and exposure in regard to all subversive activities. L The necessity for exclusion •f all alien radicab. The American Legion ha* supported the congressional investlrating committee since their inception. just as it has supported 'he activities ot the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other aw enforcement ageqcies. but possessed and shared with others; in this sharing the soul grows more and moil* like Christ V. 15. ‘And let the peace of God rale tn your hearts, to which ye are also called in one body; and be ye thankful/ T’he sweet peace of God’s love must be ever held in mind, and nothing to interfere with it dare be permitted. Then there is an abiding in Christ and an abiding of Christ in Individuals which makes for such g perfect union as to constitute one body. ■ V.lB. "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart* to the Lord.” The word dwells iu us when we take it to heart and put It in. practice. The words "one another" implies the fellowship of the church where a program ot teaching and worship is carried out
V. 17. "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do air in the name ot the Lord Jesus. giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” All our deeds should ba in accordance with God's will and such as tend to promote his cause. Continual gratitude to God Is a sign of the lif* ot Christ within. V. 33. "And let us hold fast the profession ot our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that hath promised.” The power of evil all about calls for a constant faithfulness to keep our Christian experience at a high level. We need ever remember the tall of Adam and Eve. V. 24. “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works." Consideration of others a rare and precious thought. There It a motto with the words, “I am third,” or stated differently, "God first, others next, and myself last” V.? 6. “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; hut exhorting on* qnother; and so much the more as ye see the day approaching." Not to attend church regularly is a danger signal, it is essential that each ode be ready for the coming of Christ, and so one may be like the foolish virgins who had no oil in their lamps when the bridegroom came. —Based oh copyrighted outlines produced by the pfrlsfoil of Christian Education. Christian churches in the large • republic of Indonesia are expanding with extraordinary' rapidity, the total number of Christians being 3.000.900 in a predominantly Moslem country, an increase of 20 percent since the estimate of the World Council of Churches in *52. In some areas the Christians are predominant. In N. Celebes 95 percent of the population is Christian. A great part of the growth is due to the Indonesian government's policy of religious freedom. Nehru in a letter to Bishop Mondo) of Hyderbad. president of the National Christian Council of India, makes clear that Christianity is a part of India and that he will not discriminate against It. However, some of his people are adverse to it because ot the attitude of some Christian churches who collaborated with the colonial government.
